Department

Private Business Development (PRBD) - Pact’s Private Sector Team leads and supports the development of partnerships with private sector entities, which includes corporations and foundations. The Team works with technical leads and country office staff to develop and shepherd project opportunities through from initial meeting or idea to successful receipt of funding. This also includes growing our innovative private sector consulting practice. The Private Sector Team is part of a larger Business Development team and collaborates with business development colleagues focused on work with public sector funders.

Position Overview

Pact seeks an Intern to support expanding our work with corporate and foundation funders based on Pact’s ability to understand community needs, convene the right stakeholders, and implement and scale solutions in country. The Intern will research the potential for Pact’s engagement with both companies and communities to help identify and develop impactful and sustainable solutions to local issues. The Intern may be asked to assist with Pact’s technical program areas which includes livelihoods, energy, mining, and natural resource management, health, governance, and local capacity building. The Intern will work with the team to research various foundations and corporations and their priorities, activities, and plans in international development. They will support knowledge management activities by maintaining databases and information platforms. They may also be asked to help develop various external- and internal-facing communications products.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct research on corporations, foundations, and potential partners related to their development priorities and objectives, corporate social responsibility and environment, social and governance objectives, and alignment with Pact’s strategic road map
  • Monitor trends and business intelligence across Pact’s technical sectors, to help identify sector-specific and cross-cutting opportunities for partnership
  • Maintain relationship management and organizational databases (Salesforce, SharePoint) and develop a set of recommendations to address data quality issues and information gaps
  • Contribute to internal-facing reports, trainings, and communications products such as trainings for Pact country offices and impact area teams, capacity statements for positionings and proposals, Private Sector Engagement Community of Practices, and other presentations.
  • Support coordination of internal and external events, meetings, and conferences
  • Support team recruitment activities as needed
  • Other tasks as needed an upon request

Basic Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in international development or other relevant fields. Candidates will also be considered if they have at least 4 years of relevant experience, or some combination of relevant experience and coursework in international development, or similar fields
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills, including quickly researching and synthesizing unfamiliar topics
  • Critical thinker with a can-do approach to problem solving
  • Excellent attention to detail
  • Ability to work on multiple initiatives at the same time and manage priorities
  • Microsoft Office Suite
  • Internships generally begin in January, June and September and last approximately 4 months. The Intern is expected to work approximately 20 hours per week.
