About the role

The Dive Coordinator in Fiji is responsible for overseeing all dive-related activities, ensuring participants receive proper training, timely certifications, and adhere to the highest safety standards. The role includes managing dive operations, maintaining equipment, and enforcing health and safeguarding protocols.

A key focus is empowering the Dawasamu community, especially women, by providing hands-on training in diving and marine conservation. This helps local members safely engage in diving, conduct scientific surveys, and advocate for sustainable practices. The role also involves developing local dive guides to enhance long-term community ownership of marine resources.

Collaboration with the Marine Team is essential, including leading meetings with boat captains and assisting in strategic planning. Strong leadership, cultural sensitivity, and commitment to safety are crucial for developing a professional training environment and strengthening GVI’s relationship with the community.

Roles and Responsibilities:

  • Coordinate all diving activities, ensuring participants receive certifications and adequate training.
  • Lead and support marine staff, volunteers, and field teams.
  • Provide training and upskilling opportunities for staff.
  • Hold weekly meetings with Boat Captains and the Marine Team to discuss challenges and schedules.
  • Issue all certifications through the online PADI centre within a week of participant departure.
  • Ensure all training meets GVI and PADI standards.
  • Conduct pre- and post-dive briefings and safety checks.
  • Ensure dive equipment is properly assembled and in good working order before dives.
  • Communicate participant skill levels to the Science Team for research scheduling.
  • Repair and service dive equipment as needed and report larger issues to management.
  • Maintain logbooks for dive equipment, repairs, and compressor services.
  • Manage dive and compressor inventory, requesting parts and equipment as needed.
  • Track and reorder PADI PIC cards in advance.
  • Keep records of all certified divers and their course details.
  • Assist with daily operations, housekeeping, and base duties.
