Noise Specialist

ABOUT THE POSITION

VHB seeks a Noise Specialist to join our team in North Carolina (Raleigh or Charlotte offices) to work collaboratively with our corporate noise team.  VHB is a multi-faceted team of engineers, scientists, planners, and designers who partner with clients in the transportation, real estate, institutional, and energy industries, as well as federal, state, and local governments. VHB provides noise and vibration services for a wide range of projects across these markets throughout the planning, engineering and construction phases. In this role, you will have the opportunity to manage projects, supervise and oversee work conducted by others on our noise and air quality team, conduct noise and vibration studies for a wide range of projects (with a focus on North Carolina Department of Transportation (NCDOT) projects), prepare technical reports, represent VHB at meetings with key clients, and support public outreach efforts to communicate study findings. This position will also provide opportunities to support and lead noise and vibration studies.

Responsibilities

• Lead noise and vibration studies for a wide range of clients across the transportation, energy, and private development markets
• Analyze noise and vibration using models such as Cadna-A, FHWA’s Traffic Noise Model, FHWA’s Roadway Construction Noise Model, FTA/FRA Noise and Vibration Guidance modeling and FAA Aviation Environmental Design Tool
• Utilize a wide range of technical tools such as Cadna-A, GIS, CAD, Matlab and spreadsheets
• Prepare technical reports on study findings and review technical writing from other team members
• Present at public meetings
• Support client relationship, business development and marketing activities

Skills & Abilities

• Experience on NCDOT projects preferred, specifically on TNR/DNR level projects
• NCDOT qualified for noise assessments on TNR/DNR level projects preferred
• Excellent verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills
• Strong technical capabilities in noise consulting
• Self-motivated
• Team leadership qualities
• Ability to manage multiple projects

Qualifications

• B.S. degree in acoustics, engineering, transportation, environmental science, GIS - Geographic Information Systems or related field preferred
• 3+ years of experience noise modeling software including the Federal Highway Administration’s Traffic Noise Model, Federal Highway Administration’s Roadway Construction Noise Model, Federal Transit Administration’s Noise Impact Assessment Spreadsheet, and either SoundPLAN or CadnaA acoustic prediction software.
• Must reside/work in North Carolina
