The Role: Network Operations Manager has the right balance of technical know-how and leadership aptitude to coach and lead by example but still participate in and execute on technical implementation alongside their team.
In this role you will be responsible for planning, organizing, managing and providing guidance and direction to the Network Operations team on day-to-day activities regarding monitoring the network, installation sites, trouble isolation and repair of identified and reported problems. This individual will manage a team of network engineers to ensure consistent, reliable, high-performing and available systems to our customers. Additionally, will be responsible for customer interaction/communication and managing team to contractual SLA’s. Must be able to interact with engineers and translate technical requirements into relevant business impacts.
Essential Duties/Principal Responsibilities:
- Developing, maintaining, supporting, and optimizing key functional areas, particularly in the support of network infrastructure.
- Responsibility for Incident Management, Problem Management, Monitoring Response and Reporting/Metrics.
- 24/7 responsibility for network (voice and data) availability.
- Build, develop, and lead local and remote team of technical network team resources.
- Proactive communication on network health, impacts, executive escalations, and other critical analysis to Management and key stakeholders.
- Build, develop, and lead problem management process to ensure long-term network performance and stability.
- Define processes and controls providing on-call support.
- Provide guidance and assistance to network operations to maintain availability and performance of network services at the highest possible levels.
- Drive a continuous improvement environment.
- Provide expert root cause and corrective action leadership to resolve all operational issues found across network infrastructure and hardware platforms.
- Implement process improvement by empowering peer departments with procedures and toolsets to best support the business. Facilitate change management, incident management and notifications as well as root cause analysis.
- Provide senior management with detailed reviews and reports of service disruptions, metrics, and launch plans.
- Participate in design and production deployment of new networking solutions or updates to existing environments.
- Participation in Xylem Watermark volunteer activities
Minimum Qualifications: Education, Experience, Skills, Abilities, License/Certification:
- Bachelor’s or master’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field.
- 10 or more years of relevant experience architecting, designing, installing and maintaining network systems
- 2 years of experience leading engineering teams strongly preferred.
- CCNP certification or equivalent is a plus.
- Experience in managing teams and with responsibility for completing complex deployment projects within budget and on specific timelines.
- Demonstrated project management and project planning capabilities.
- Experience with team building and mentoring engineers.
- Project management skills, ability to manage time and complex tasks, and working knowledge of SLAs and Metrix.
- Solid understanding of Incident, Problem and Change Management ITIL services
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to work effectivity with a wide range of constituencies to communicate technical information and non-technical personnel.
- Participate in design and production deployment of new networking solutions or updates to existing environments.
- Intermediate experience in architecting large-scale global networks and documentation.
- Intermediate experience in SDN and SD-WAN.
- Intermediate experience with Cisco switching and routing platforms such as Cisco Nexus, Cisco Catalyst, Cisco ISR and ASR.
- Intermediate experience and understanding of OSI or TCP/IP model.
- Intermediate experience and understanding of dynamic routing (BGP, EIGRP and OSPF).
- Intermediate experience and understanding in technical areas: Networking Protocols/Services BGP, OSPF, IPSec, GRE, HSRP/VRRP, NAT/PAT, SNMP, MPLS, VoIP, SIP, VPLS, QoS, T1, DS3, Ethernet, Firewalls, SDN , SDA and Cisco DNA.
- Excellent technical abilities and working experience of Cisco network infrastructure.
- Intermediate experience in wireless protocols (802.11) and Cisco Wireless Controllers.
- Preferred experience in network load balancers such as Citrix NetScaler.
- Intermediate experience in Network security, Cisco ASA and Palo Alto firewall platforms.

The wage range for this role takes into account the wide range of factors that are considered in making compensation decisions including but not limited to skill sets; experience and training; licensure and certifications; and other business and organizational needs. The disclosed range estimate has not been adjusted for the applicable geographic differential associated with the location at which the position may be filled. A reasonable estimate of the current range is $145,000 to $165,000 plus bonus. At Xylem, it is not typical for an individual to start at the top end of the range for the role however compensation decisions are dependent on the facts and circumstances of each case. We offer a generous benefit package, including Medical, Dental, Vision plans, 401(k) with company contribution, paid time off, paid parental leave and tuition reimbursement.
