Natural Resources Technician

About the opportunity

SWCA Environmental Consultants is an employee-owned company of cultural and natural resource scientists and planners. Our professionals specialize in natural and cultural resource management, environmental planning, regulatory compliance, and sustainability services.

We are actively seeking resumes for qualified individuals for Natural Resource Technician to join our Broomfield, CO office. This is an hourly position that will perform biological field surveys, assist with data collection and data entry, and with report writing for a variety of natural resources projects. The selected individual will be part of the Denver Natural Resources team supporting various projects in Texas. We work to support our client’s needs across multiple service areas including renewable generation, oil & gas, transportation, site development, and ecological restoration. The position requires the ability to work long hours in harsh conditions and be on the road for several days or weeks at a time.

What you will accomplish

  • Assist crew leaders with a variety of natural resources field studies including wetland delineations, stream assessments, vegetation and rare plant surveys, avian and wildlife surveys, aquatics surveys, and wildlife habitat assessments
  • Record data on GPS units and field site forms or other forms
  • Use topographic maps, aerial photographs, GPS units, and other maps and tools to determine exact locations of project areas, habitat types, and associated landforms
  • Photograph and record appropriate habitat, species, and landforms
  • Operate SWCA vehicles. Ability to drive a 4-wheel drive vehicle on rugged, backcountry roads
  • Assist project managers in data organization, interpretation, and report preparation as needed
  • Adhere to SWCA’s safety procedures and standards of scientific and professional ethics

Experience and qualifications for success

  • High School Diploma

Preferred:

  • Bachelor's degree in a related environmental field.
  • Knowledge of Texas flora and fauna preferred.
  • Working knowledge of wetland soils, and wetland hydrology indicators a plus.
  • Experience in avian surveys or wildlife surveys in Colorado is a plus.

Additional Information:

  • Ability to travel to a location, walk and conduct fieldwork for long hours, sometimes in inclement weather, rugged terrain.
  • Ability to carry equipment and supplies weighing up to 40 pounds.
  • Frequent travel will be required for the position, with field work sometimes reaching 80% of your time.

In accordance with the Colorado Equal Pay for Equal Work Act (EPEWA), we are disclosing a good faith estimate of the compensation range for roles that will be, or could be, performed in Colorado.
