SWCA is seeking a Natural Resources Team Lead for our Portland, Oregon, office. The successful candidate will keep the team healthy and engaged, provide outstanding service to clients, manage projects, develop new business, and mentor others to do the same.
The Natural Resources (NR) Team Lead will manage a staff of 7-10 people and report to the Portland Office Director. The NR Team Lead will work closely with two other Portland team leads, and the Great Basin/Pacific Northwest Vice President. Our highly collaborative and fantastic team of about 30 specialists in natural and cultural resources management, environmental planning, permitting, compliance, and geographic information systems is based in a beautifully converted warehouse in northwest Portland with free street parking! Most of our staff are hybrid, splitting time between working at home and in the office. Those that are not hybrid are distributed and work from home full time. We offer flexibility in work hours and our motto is “as long as you are getting the work done, you set your hours.” This has been our successful work model for over 10 years.

The Natural Resources Team Lead will manage current opportunities while participating in the development of a forward-looking plan for the team. This will include working with the Office Director and professional staff in the Portland office and throughout the Great Basin/Pacific Northwest sub-region to further staff development and mentoring, track financial performance and forecasting, provide technical leadership, and develop strategic program goals. Specific expectations include:
Providing adaptable and effective management and leadership.
Supervising and mentoring project managers, technical staff, and field personnel, while promoting a culture of teamwork, engagement, quality service, and client satisfaction.
Promoting a culture of accountability, budget and cost control, value creation and return on investment, and profit optimization.
Managing the performance of individual projects and effectively coordinating with clients and agencies to produce technically excellent work that is on time and on budget.
Ensuring the delivery of high-quality technical work throughout the program, including data management and analysis, and reporting.
Assisting with or leading proposal efforts, participating in or leading internal business development groups, taking the lead on go/no go decisions in partnership with the Director.
Building and maintaining strong relationships with existing clients while working with the office director and subregional business director to develop strategy and secure sales with new clients.
