Natural Resources - Project Manager

About the opportunity

SWCA is looking for a Project Manager to join our Pensacola, FL office. The candidate chosen to fill this position will have a broad range of skills to work with our Florida based team in supporting and managing our assessment, permitting and compliance efforts in the transmission, power generation, and oil and gas markets.  There might be opportunities to work within our other business lines, such as land development or ecological restoration, as the need arises.  The position requires proven experience with all phases of project development including initial constraints analysis, permitting, preconstruction planning, construction, and post-construction operations and maintenance. Not only will you manage projects independently, but you will also support and be mentored by our senior project managers on large complex projects throughout all phases of a project’s life-cycle.

This is a full time, regular status position reporting to our Pensacola, FL office with ability to be distributed within the state of Florida for exceptional candidates.

What you will accomplish

  • Preparation of key aspects of environmental planning documents, including pre-application activities and project planning; developing project descriptions and supporting documentation; preparing technical reports; public involvement and stakeholder outreach.
  • Serve as a project manager or task lead on projects of varying size and complexity.
  • Work closely with SWCA senior project managers on complex energy development or FERC regulated projects.
  • Prepare Regulatory Permit Applications to agencies such as the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and Florida Department of Environmental Protection
  • Manage and lead project teams working various energy development projects.
  • Serve as the regulatory/permit compliance liaison between agencies and clients.
  • Communicate effectively and pro-actively with diverse project stakeholders, including regulatory agents, field crews, trade workers, and third parties regarding project status, schedules, and compliance issues.
  • Build new relationships and supporting the development of client capture plans.
  • Use of strong organizational and communication skills in writing, verbally, and graphically.

Experience and qualifications for success

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in an environmental related field or demonstrated equivalent experience.
  • A minimum of 7 years of permitting and natural resource related experience.
  • Experience in regulatory permitting in the state of Florida.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft suite of products (Excel, PowerPoint, Teams, and Word).
  • Working knowledge of federal, state, and local permitting laws and processes.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in power generation, electrical transmission, and/or oil and gas projects
  • FERC related infrastructure project experience.
  • Experience in solar generation projects in the Southeast.
  • Experience in managing or mentoring staff

Additional Information:

  • Ability to travel up to 25% - 35% regionally.

An employee in this Pensacola, FL – based position can expect a salary of $70,200.00/year to $91,000.00/year. Actual pay within this range may depend on experience, qualifications, geographic location, client requirements where applicable, and other factors permitted by law. Regular-status employees are also eligible for performance bonuses.
