IISD serves as the Secretariat for the Intergovernmental Forum on Mining, Minerals, Metals and Sustainable Development (IGF). The IGF works with governments to advance their sustainable development goals with effective laws, policies, and regulations for the mining sector. It is devoted to optimizing the benefits of mining to achieve poverty reduction, inclusive growth, social development, and environmental stewardship. The IGF serves as a unique global venue for dialogue between its 82 member country governments and mining companies, industry associations, and civil society.

We are currently looking for a bilingual (English-French) Mine Closure Costing Consultant to support the IGF Secretariat. The consultant will support the design and delivery of training workshops on mine closure and post-mining transition and particularly a mine closure costing training for UEMOA countries from April 22 to 25, 2024. This position is an immediate short-term consultancy with an opportunity for future contracts. International travel might be required.

Qualifications

  • A university degree from a recognized university in a related discipline such as economics, accounting, geology, engineering, environmental management accounting, or equivalent discipline.

Experience

  • At least 10 years of relevant professional experience in the mining sector, including mine closure planning and implementation.
  • Experience in mine closure costing.
  • Experience developing and delivering training or capacity building on mining and mine closure topics.
  • Experience with mine closure policies, regulations, and/or guidance documents.
  • Experience working in Africa is considered an asset.

Location: Remote. IISD will not be applying for residency and work permits for this position on behalf of the applicant.
