The Role: Materials Test Engineer Co-op

Who are you?

The Materials Test Engineer Co-op will be responsible for supporting the material and process team in the implementation of custom testing equipment or jigs, execution of material testing, as well as preparing samples and reports. She/he will collaborate with the M&P and R&D team to provide support to the Core Product Technology team in design validation of Structured Adsorbent Beds (SAB).

The Materials Test Engineer Co-op will work with a broad spectrum of testing equipment, measurement devices, analytical instruments, tools, and fixtures. She/he will be working closely with the Material and Process team members to understand their test requirements and communicate the test outcomes.

Material & Processing Group (M&P)

Working within the framework of Svante Values and Goals, the M&P group provides cross-functional support for materials & material conversion technologies from developmental to commercialization. The outcomes of the M&P work will impact the product development path and, de-risk design decisions.

Customers:

• Material & Process Group- Test equipment, procedures, samples, and reports
• Supply chain – Documentation support for purchasing
• External labs- Providing samples and specifications

Suppliers:

• Sr. M&P - Priorities, tasks, and technical support
• Material & Process Group-Test requests and design specifications
• VPP – Vision, goals and objectives
• Supply chain – Purchased parts
• External labs- Test results and reports

Key Responsibilities/Accountabilities:

• Perform and monitor test procedure, to ensure the collected data is precise and accurate.
• Prepare test reports to summarize test outcomes, observations, and collected data.
• Prepare test samples to the test and design specifications, using in-house tools or external vendors.
• Analyze, refine, and interpret recorded data to support the outcome of tests.
• Investigate the issues that may arise during testing and resolve them promptly.
• Design and build test fixtures and equipment based on test request and specifications.
• Develop control programs and interfaces, utilizing PLCs and HMIs.
• Develop test procedures based on design requirements to verify engineering designs.
• Communicate with external labs for expertise and resources that are not available in-house, provide samples and specifications, and receive consultation and test results.
• Collaborate with engineering team in maintaining a safe and clean fabrication shop and testing center.

Key Qualifications:

• Experience and Knowledge:
  • Hands on experience with preparation of analytical scale samples and manufacturing of small to medium scale instrumented V&V parts.
  • Experience with safe operation, calibration and maintenance of analytical equipment (UTM, DSC, TGA, DMA, Rheometer etc.)
  • Excellent grasp of first principles in mechanical and electrical engineering, and basic industrial control systems (i.e. PLC, HMI, Labview, etc.)
• Attitude: Must naturally espouse Svante values and believe in our Goals and Objectives.
• Education: completion of 3rd or 4th year of Mechanical or Materials Engineering.
