ABOUT THE ROLE
At 3Degrees, we help companies around the globe work toward a decarbonized future. The Marketing Manager role provides senior level marketing and communication expertise in support of the Utility Partnerships (UP) business unit. Reporting to the Director of Utility Partnerships Marketing, this role will work closely with the program and creative services teams to develop and recommend data-driven marketing plans for UP programs, and be responsible for the implementation of these plans. The range of marketing activities includes crafting messaging and copy for consumer audiences across a variety of channels, holistically managing marketing plans including tactics and vendors, and building collaborative and strong working relationships both internally and with clients.
This is a full-time position reporting to the Director of Utility Partnerships Marketing. The UP marketing team is based in Portland, OR. We have a preference for this new team member to join us in our Portland, OR office, or a secondary preference for a candidate that would regularly work in 3Degrees’ San Francisco, CA, Portland, ME or New York, NY offices. Highly qualified candidates located in other parts of the United States may also be considered.
WHAT YOU’LL DO
Specifically, the Marketing Manager will be charged with four main areas of responsibility:
Client Management:
- Establish marketing expertise and trusting relationships with clients and remove barriers hindering successful implementation of marketing goals
- Facilitate the gathering of client feedback and lead opportunities for improvement on teams' marketing work
- Build, manage, and continuously improve marketing processes and deliverables to strengthen client relationships and meet program enrollment goals
- Ensure clients are up to date on marketing best practices as well as new products and services
- Regularly engage with clients to pitch new ideas, or communicate status and results of marketing plans
Marketing Strategy:
- Lead the planning and development of integrated marketing strategies and creative campaigns across a variety of channels
- Develop full-funnel strategies that deliver positive customer experiences and cost efficiency
- Provide hands-on advisory services, development and management of marketing materials for use across multiple channels and campaigns including acquisition, retention and engagement tactics
- Work directly with internal designers and program managers as well as key personnel at utility clients, such as brand managers, to produce creative copy and visuals that are consistently on-brand, on-voice, on-message and impactful
- Lead the marketing strategy for RFPs or other business development activities
Project Management:
- Develop annual marketing plans budgets, and act as both gatekeeper and conductor to ensure that all projects and materials are delivered to specification, on time and to the standards of 3Degrees’ partners
- Participate in strategic planning sessions with 3Degrees staff to ensure proper allocation of resources (labor hours and expenses) and identify/alleviate potential challenges that may take a project off course
- Responsible for implementing tactical plans, including gathering project requirements, filling out briefs, creating project calendars and tracking milestones and deadlines in project management tools
- Proactively manage project deadlines and when they’re in jeopardy and self-manage workload — raising a flag early if additional resources are needed
- Identify opportunities for operational efficiency and take on special projects as assigned
Marketing Results:
- Leverage internal subject matter experts to ensure 3Degrees best practices and insights are applied, and regularly introduce new ways of looking at marketing challenges
- Manage and regularly report on key performance indicators (KPI) and take responsibility for adjusting marketing strategies to achieve optimal outcomes
- Partner with internal data experts to segment customer lists, and design and deliver positive customer journeys, and evolve segmentation nuances to continually improve the efficacy of delivering clients’ enrollment goals
- Leverage data and message testing to further develop messaging pillars and improve campaign results across new and existing target audiences
ABOUT YOU
You are a seasoned marketing generalist with a proven track record for managing and evolving brands and partnering with cross-functional teams to deliver both traditional and digital marketing campaigns. You have a knack for building client relationships and enjoy the rewards of mentoring junior team members. You are results-driven and are motivated by meeting program goals — and you enjoy swapping your strategic thinking cap for project management work gloves on a regular basis. You have a strong desire to make the world a better place and are excited to help 3Degrees’ customers take urgent action on climate change.
- 7+ years experience in pitching new concepts and presenting results to clients and/or a variety of stakeholders
- 7+ years of executing digital and print marketing campaigns in line with current best practices
- 2+ years managing, mentoring and engaging staff
- Superb communication and presentation skills and an ability to adapt to different communication styles
- Ability to uncover and pinpoint client needs and values and match marketing services accordingly
- Excellent writer with the ability to consistently write on-brand, error-free and compelling content in multiple mediums
- Excellent project and calendar management skills with the ability to succeed in a fast-paced, collaborative, and deadline driven atmosphere that often requires a shifting of priorities
- Proven track record of successfully hitting the ground running and delivering exceptional work with high levels of efficiency
- A high aptitude for budget management and using data and marketing analytics to inform decision-making
- Highly motivated self-starter with strong work ethic — demonstrates judgment and initiative in identifying and accomplishing project tasks
- Professional experience with Google for Business Apps and/or Microsoft Office applications
- General knowledge of renewable energy, energy and utility industry a plus
- Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field preferred
HOW WE DEFINE SUCCESS
Within 30 days
- Become familiar with teams, utility business, clients and related marketing plans
Within 90 days
- Successfully lead the strategy and implementation of integrated marketing plans for at least one large key client and proactively anticipate strategic needs of the client
- Onboard direct reports, and effectively manage competing priorities and deadlines, and demonstrate a comfort level with requesting support when needed
Within 6 months
- Successfully lead the strategy and implementation of integrated marketing plans for at least one large key client and proactively anticipate strategic needs of the client
- You have demonstrated your ability to direct, motivate, coach, and influence team members, both within Marketing and cross-functionally, and you are successfully leading marketing plans that are impactful, innovative and meet the program goals of your clients and the UP business
COMPENSATION & BENEFITS
- Compensation: The starting base pay for this position is $75,000 to $100,000 in the US. The total compensation package for the successful candidate in this role may exceed the base pay as it includes other incentive pay. The base pay is dependent upon many factors such as location, transferable or job-related skills, work experience, relevant training, business needs, and market demands. The base salary range is subject to change and may be modified in the future.

- Supplemental Pay: this position is eligible for discretionary bonus programs including the company’s profit sharing program and an annual performance bonus based on personal, department and company goals.
