What is the opportunity?
The Marketing Director will lead Water Mission’s marketing strategy, engaging audiences across multiple platforms, including social media, online, email, and print. This position brings extensive project management experience and strong leadership skills to build consensus across diverse audiences around our mission to end the global water crisis. This person will develop marketing strategies and oversee their implementation to raise brand awareness, create growth opportunities, engage key partners and audiences, and tell Water Mission’s story and impact. The Marketing Director will analyze marketing data to drive key decisions and actions that increase partner engagement through improved acquisition, retention, and recapturing. This position reports to the Senior Director of Marketing and Communications and can be based remotely or at Water Mission’s Headquarters in Charleston, SC. A successful Marketing Director will:
General Duties
Maintain a strong Christian witness to colleagues, donors, volunteers, and the general public.
Maintain high-level knowledge of Water Mission’s organizational objectives, programmatic strategies, projects, and activities.
Effectively communicate the mission and scope of Water Mission to various audiences.
Ensure all relevant project information and communication is recorded in Smartsheet and project files are stored appropriately on SharePoint and in other systems per guidelines.

Marketing Strategy Development and Implementation
Develop and implement brand strategy in keeping with Water Mission’s core values of Love, Excellence, and Integrity.
Perform market research to better understand target audiences to anticipate needs and identify opportunities to maximize reach, engagement, and conversions.
Analyze internal partner data to make key decisions resulting in increased engagement through improved audience acquisition, retention, and recapturing.
Lead the development and execution of marketing strategies and plans that align with short- and long-term goals.
Work closely with content and creative teams to grow and engage audiences across owned, earned, and paid channels.
Expand the direct response program to grow Water Mission’s donor base, retain and upgrade existing donors, and build a strong pipeline for mid-level and major donors.
Manage day-to-day production and creative processes to support the acquisition, reactivation, cultivation, and growth of Water Mission’s monthly giving program.
Provide strategic direction for integrated brand campaigns that optimize the user experience across all platforms.
Direct the development and execution of a strategic plan.
Confirm that deliverables meet quality standards, stay on or under budget, and are on time. Develop standard operating procedures to ensure each project meets these objectives.
Ensure complex ideas and processes related to engineering and water, sanitation, and hygiene (WASH) are understandable and engaging to a wide variety of audiences and stakeholders.
Set and measure key performance indicators and provide forecasts and reports that translate marketing analytics into actionable insight. Optimize campaign performance utilizing the latest testing and tracking techniques.
Generate brand standards and style guides and work cross-departmentally to ensure their implementation across all published content from the organization.
Work collaboratively with global teams to ensure brand consistency.
Managerial Duties
Lead project managers through core marketing tasks and initiatives, with an aim to accomplish set goals efficiently and consistently.
Perform supervisory duties, including, but not limited to: ensuring milestones, goals, and deadlines are met; invoice processing; approval of administrative tasks related to time and expenses; and onboarding team members.
Oversee and grow a team of marketing and production specialists responsible for taking projects from concept to completion.
Implement systems and processes to continuously improve internal production and quality control processes for marketing assets.
Assist in the recruiting and hiring of direct reports.
Manage the annual marketing budget, including the development of campaign forecasts and goals.
Provide direction to consultants, agencies, and vendors used by the marketing team.
Provide excellent service to internal teams and strategic partners.

Bachelor’s degree in marketing, communications, English, or another related field. Master’s degree preferred.
Seven or more years of professional experience, preferably in project management, brand development, or strategic marketing.
Three or more years of people management experience preferred.
Nonprofit experience preferred.
Impeccable oral, written, and editorial skills.
Ability to build consensus and translate complex ideas.
Strong computer skills, including proficiency in Microsoft Office.
Thrives under pressure and has a proven track record of meeting deadlines.
Ability to work in a highly fluid environment and respond to changing requests.
Ability to work independently and collaboratively with diverse groups of people.
Flexibility to work periodic nights and weekends as required for ministry operations.
Legal authorization to work in the United States without sponsorship.
Commitment to the values and mission of the organization and ending the global water crisis.
Home internet bandwidth strong enough to support video conferencing and other job-related responsibilities.
