At New Moms, young moms, 24 and under, take powerful first steps toward economic mobility and family well-being. New Moms’ headquarters is located on the west side of Chicago in the Austin neighborhood. Our social enterprise, Bright Endeavors, which provides paid transitional jobs for young moms, is located nearby in the West Garfield Park neighborhood. We also have an office in Oak Park serving the near western suburbs.

About the Job:
The Marketing & Communications Coordinator works under the supervision of the Development and Database Manager and serves as ‘lead staff’ executing the communications work plan and external marketing strategy to increase awareness of New Moms. This role will coordinate initiatives developed by the development and communications department, while bringing new creative ideas to our organization. The Marketing & Communications Coordinator will have excellent copyediting skills, an eye for design, will be a talented writer, and will be interested in building public relations skills. Additionally, this position will work closely with the Director of Development and Communications to build a public relations strategy. The Marketing & Communications Coordinator will champion all New Moms values including our commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion, in both strategic planning and performance. Key Job Responsibilities:
Marketing & Communications (60%)
Manage and execute the annual content calendar
Assist in development of multi-faceted marketing strategy and corresponding assets
Design and launch email marketing fundraising campaigns
Serve as production coordinator for all publications. Manage, write, edit and disseminate monthly e-newsletter, and ad hoc e-blasts
Interact with staff and participants to solicit accounts of impact of New Moms for use in communications and development materials
Develop fresh story ideas
Create and maintain organization literature and other forms of communication (print collateral, website content, etc.), both print and electronic
Coordinate video and photography projects
Manage New Moms’ social media assets, including campaign ideation and execution
Monitor and reports on social media outreach, including monthly reporting
Represents New Moms in public speaking opportunities as needed
Public Relations (25%)
Develop and execute external marketing strategy for key media contacts
Research media coverage and industry trends
Research, develop, and manage media/influencer contact list
Develop and manage media relationships and coordinate/manage press interviews
Write press releases if needed, write and submit articles on behalf of the CEO
Gather and prepare appropriate materials for external speaking engagements
Work with publication vendors for timely ad submissions
General (10%)
Administration and Other (5%)
Copyedit Development Department written materials
Upholds the New Moms’ Executive Skills Coaching approach which is grounded in racial equity
Actively participate in monthly development team meetings
Actively participate in other meetings as requested
Participate at each special event with duties as assigned
Assist Engagement Specialist with in-kind donation pickups as needed
Protect the organization’s value by keeping information confidential
Qualifications:
Experience:
Bachelor’s Degree Required; degree in the areas of Communications, Marketing, English, or Journalism preferred.
More than two (2) years of related experience preferred
Experience working under tight deadlines and meeting them
