Village Enterprise has impacted the lives of over one million people living in extreme poverty in East Africa. Our new strategy focuses on ‘scale and impact’, and the organization has ambitious goals in both areas. We intend to impact the lives of 20 million people living in extreme poverty by 2030. Over the next three years, we also plan to almost triple the number of people we serve (from 18,000/year to 45,000/year) and expand into new countries.

Position overview:

Village Enterprise seeks a creative, organized, and highly motivated Marketing and Communications Coordinator. This role works closely with and reports to the Vice President of Marketing and Communications. The ideal candidate will be a strong writer, graphic designer, and project manager. As a small team, we are looking to add someone with a diverse skill set and a willingness to learn and grow on the job. This is an ideal role for someone who is passionate about our mission, enjoys working remotely, and works well individually and collaborating across teams, departments, and timezones.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Manage the creation, production, design, and distribution of monthly eblast newsletters and quarterly Village Impact Reports
  • Maintain and regularly update inventory of marketing materials (ex. one-pagers, slides and pitch decks, etc.)
  • Create and design new one-pagers and marketing materials as necessary
  • Monitor and create content for Village Enterprise’s social media channels (Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, and Twitter)—innovate and experiment with new content ideas
  • Assist in writing and editing copy for eblasts, reports, blogs, webpages, and more
  • Manage the editorial calendar
  • Maintain and update the website regularly
  • Stay up-to-date with industry trends in social media, digital marketing, and storytelling, as well as developments in the field of poverty alleviation
  • Support Village Enterprise communications efforts around public relations, as well as internal, external, and executive communications
  • Edit videos as needed for the organization and/or manage external contractors for video editing
  • Manage email marketing lists
  • Update and maintain presence on external sites such as GuideStar, Charity Navigator, Great Nonprofits, PEI Global, and more
  • Collaborate with the development and partnership teams to design and execute fundraising campaigns, events, and appeals
  • Create and run reports for KPIs, committees, CEO, and board
  • Other duties, as assigned

Qualifications/Requirements

  • Passion for Village Enterprise’s work and mission
  • Bachelor's degree
  • 1-3 years of experience in marketing, communications, international development, or related fields
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and oral, including the ability to collaborate with a culturally and geographically diverse team
  • Self-starter with demonstrated ability to initiate, plan, and execute projects
  • Excellent project management skills, including a strong track record of delivering projects on time and within budget
  • Strong graphic design skills
  • Experience writing for social media, email marketing, and blogs
  • Highly proficient in Google Suite, Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint templates
  • Highly organized and detail-oriented
  • Takes initiative and is self-directed, enjoys working independently and as part of a small team in a remote environment
  • Flexibility, patience, and a sense of humor

Desired Qualifications

  • Familiarity and experience with Adobe Creative Suite
  • Experience with Pardot
  • Experience with Google Analytics/Ads, Facebook Ads
  • Knowledge of SEO and web traffic metrics
  • Basic knowledge of HTML and Wordpress
