Market Analyst - Internship

Holcim Trading is the trading arm of Holcim Group, the world leader in the building materials industry. Holcim Trading is specialized in meeting the needs of internal and external customers and suppliers around the world through a unique product and service portfolio provided by offices in Zurich, Singapore and Miami.

For our office in Zurich we are looking for a

Market Analyst - Internship (100%, 6 months)

Responsibilities

• Data gathering through customs and port statistics, shipping agents, consultants, local business units and vessel tracking tools.
• Processing of raw data including master data alignment and matching with existing data. The data comes in many different formats; email attachments, electronic databases and websites. The challenge lies in rationalizing and improving the alignment and entry of data.
• Data processing automations in cooperation with the IT department.
• Propose new sources of information and ways of improving the data gathering and data processing. Work closely with IT to define new specifications of the BI tools implemented as well as new systems to improve day-to-day activity.
• Regular and pro-active communication with colleagues in charge of other geographies, business developers, traders and local business units in order to complete trade flow information, cross-check and validate data, and share knowledge.
• Reporting in terms of sharing the monthly trading flows, production of specific country or competitor reports, creation and maintenance of dashboards.
• Support the preparation of monthly market reports.
• Respond to ad hoc requests from traders, management and local business units.
• Collect and share industry news that would be of strategic interest for the trading organization, as well as report on new trade patterns on a weekly basis.
• Develop a robust understanding on flows and patterns (trends, competitors, ports) to support business decisions.

Education/Qualifications

• Student or recent graduate

Knowledge & Skills

• MS Office (in particular mastery of Excel and PowerPoint)
• Rigor and strong attention to data quality (input, processed, output)
• Result and progress oriented, capacity to work under short delay notice
• Dedicated to business understanding, analysis and problem solving
• Strong team spirit as well as ability to work independently
• Curiosity for geo-political topics and multinational cultures

Language Requirements

English, very good verbal and written knowledge
