Location: Dawasamu, Fiji | Start Date: ASAP | Duration: 1 year contract (will possibility of extension)

At GVI Dawasamu, we’re looking for someone like you to help deliver high-quality marine research programs, support a global team of volunteers and interns, and ensure the smooth and impactful delivery of daily operations.

✨ WHY THIS ROLE MATTERS
As our Senior Marine Science Coordinator, you’ll oversee the day-to-day delivery of coastal and marine conservation programs. You’ll manage research, staff, and volunteers while ensuring all projects meet GVI’s high standards for quality, safety, and impact. You’ll work closely with the Program Manager and external partners to deliver meaningful marine conservation outcomes in one of Fiji’s most ecologically important regions.

🎯 WHAT YOU’LL BE DOING

  • Overseeing daily program operations, including quality, safety, and project delivery
  • Managing and mentoring coordinators, officers, and field staff
  • Supporting volunteer and intern engagement, resolving issues, and ensuring a positive experience
  • Assisting with intake, orientation, and training of new staff and participants
  • Conducting and overseeing ecological surveys of coral reefs and coastal habitats
  • Supporting research program development and data management
  • Collaborating with local partners, government agencies, NGOs, and academic institutions
  • Reporting progress, challenges, and recommendations to the Program Manager

🚀 WHAT YOU BRING TO THE TEAM

  • Master’s degree or PhD in Marine Science (relevant experience considered in place of a degree)
  • PADI AOW and Rescue certifications (Divemaster preferred; Dive Instructor advantageous)
  • Strong background in marine research, monitoring protocols, and ecological surveys
  • Experience managing conservation programs or research projects in remote field sites
  • Ability to analyse and present large datasets (R, Python, or other programming languages)
  • Experience mentoring or training staff, volunteers, or students
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Highly organised, proactive, and able to manage complex field operations
  • Physical fitness and resilience for remote fieldwork

Bonus if you also have:

  • Emergency First Aid certification
  • Previous experience working with international teams or volunteers

🌴 LIVING & WORKING CONDITIONS IN DAWASAMU
Our Dawasamu hub is based on Viti Levu, Fiji, surrounded by dense jungle and volcanic mountains. You’ll split your week between office-based planning and fieldwork 2–3 days per week, with weekends included during participant intakes or base duties.
