The Florence Project was founded in 1989 to respond to a representation crisis for indigent non-citizens detained at the rural Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) Detention Center in Florence, Arizona. Through our programs today, we provide services to thousands of adults, youth, and children detained in Eloy, Florence, Phoenix, and Tucson, Arizona on any given day. In 2001, the Florence Project implemented our Integrated Social Services Program, one of the first of its kind in this field. The Florence Project provides high quality legal and social services and supports initiatives for national changes in immigration law and policy.
Primary Purpose of the Job:
The Managing Legal Assistant will be part of the Children’s Program Managerial Team, including Children’s Program Managing Attorneys, Children’s Program Managing Social Workers, and the Children’s Program Manager. The Managing Legal Assistant in the Children’s Program will provide supervision to Legal Assistants, Sr. Legal Assistants, and Intake Specialists as well as leadership, coordination, and oversight on programmatic needs related to legal assistants’ duties and responsibilities, including the coordination and provision of “Know Your Rights Presentations.” The Managing Legal Assistant will also work in close collaboration with Senior Legal Assistants on the provision of mentoring and support to Legal Assistant staff. The Managing Legal Assistant will also assist staff attorneys on the provision of direct legal representation to unaccompanied minors. This position includes extensive client contact with youth, including Indigenous youth and youth who have suffered abuse, abandonment, neglect or other emotional and physical trauma.
The position also provides the opportunity to participate in outreach activities and collaborative projects within a national network of legal service providers for unaccompanied children. This position will report directly to a Children’s Program Managing Attorney or Accredited Rep.

Mentoring experience is highly desired.
One year of supervisory experience preferred.
Experience with immigration law, family law, working with teenagers, and/or survivors of trauma is a plus.
Prior experience working with the Florence Project as a Legal Assistant preferred.
Working Conditions/Physical Demands:
Operate in a professional office environment and requires the ability to sit for long periods of time with intermittent walking, standing, bending, squatting, pulling and pushing.
Ability to use standard office equipment such as scanners, computers, keyboards, phones, shredders, photocopiers, and filing cabinets.
Requires the ability to lift up to ten pounds.
Requires travel regularly between offices, and secondary work locations.

Salary & Benefits
This is a full-time position. Salary is competitive for our field and geographical area and is commensurate with experience: $58,000-$66,000 Annually. We strive to create and uphold a positive, supportive, and inclusive work environment for all staff.
