About the Position
The Managing Director of Instructional Programming (MD) will partner with the Chief Operating Officer and Chief Executive Officer to set the strategic vision and direction for the instructional framework and pedagogical approach to CBED’s academic programs and is a key lever to accomplish the organization’s strategic goals of building a national Black Teacher Pipeline that is highly effective, sustainable, and predictable. The MD is the leader and resident expert on developing future Black teachers through the Black Teaching Tradition, Black pedagogical frameworks and historical lenses, culturally responsive instruction, curriculum, assessment, pedagogy and learning. The MD will demonstrate exceptional abilities in the primary areas of people management and development, healthy organizational culture building, strategic visioning, academic and instructional support, youth development, and service delivery.
Responsibilities include:
- As a member of the organization’s senior leadership team, participate in short- and long-term strategic planning, developing organization-wide goals, policies, plans, and activities
- Uphold and support CBED’s vision and values by modeling behaviors and practices at all times
- Develop and implement a compelling vision for CBED’s instructional and curriculum services and ensure mission-aligned instruction and instructional support is present in every program
- Provide overall instructional leadership and guidance to the central office-based instructional team and regional programs-based teams
- Lead and inspire a highly effective, innovative instructional programming team that consists of a (1) Director of Instructional Development, (2) Assistant Directors of Instruction, and (1) Content Developer
- In partnership with the Managing Director of Program Strategy & Operations and the Managing Director of Professional Learning Services, 1) establish the conditions that enable educators to provide authentic and personalized experiences for students 2) inform and continuously improve design and delivery of instructional support services to program staff in all regions
- Assess needs of CBED’s programs and implement systems and practices related to curriculum, instruction, assessment, and professional development intended to drive student learning and teacher apprentice development
- Create standard operating procedures to ensure central office and program-based teams are aware of and consistently demonstrating operational and academic expectations
- Collaborate with school systems, community based organizations, local universities, and research agencies to promote shared learning and share evolving education trends and best practices with internal colleagues
- Other duties as required
Background and experience expectations:
- A Master’s degree in Education or similar field of study required
- Minimum of 8-10 years professional experience (K-12 environment) with at least five (5) years of school leadership experience or higher level educational administrative experience
- Successful track record of working in an urban setting with staff, students and families from diverse racial, ethnic, linguistic and socio-economic backgrounds
- Commitment to Black Teaching Traditions and Frameworks, Freedom Schools Literacy Academy’s principles and outcomes, and leader, teacher, and youth development
- Experience leading instructional improvement for a school, charter system, program or district with a track record of improving student achievement or program outcomes
- Strong management experience (preferably leaders and/or educators) with a track record of success in leading and sustaining a high-performing organization
- Experience building positive relationships across lines of difference with team members and external stakeholders
- Strategic thinker and visionary
- Strong public presentation and communication skills to represent CBED
