Responsibilities

Overall Function:

The Manager, Global Climate Cooperation will apply expert knowledge of the UN climate negotiations and the multilateral system, conduct extensive analysis and outreach to negotiators in areas of importance for EDF, such as on implementation and accountability of the Paris Agreement,  This position will be responsible for achieving objectives of the EDF multilateral strategy, including through the management of collaboration with EDF experts on natural climate solutions, carbon pricing, methane, etc.  Additionally, the Manager will take on non-routine assignments, including scoping future work on emerging international negotiation topics relevant to EDF advocacy priorities (e.g. multilateral climate finance) and articulation of socioeconomic dimension of implementing climate policies for sustainable development. This role will manage the implementation of EDF’s Multilateral Climate Cooperation strategy, including coordination of input from other relevant mission areas, under the supervision of the Associate Vice President, Global Climate Cooperation. This role will also assist in preparing EDF staff for UNFCCC climate conferences (“COP”) and coordinating EDF's outreach at these events, in close coordination with EDF communications and policy/technical teams to support these efforts and guide communications outreach around key initiatives.

Key Responsibilites:

  • Implement and oversee the EDF’s Multilateral Climate Cooperation strategy to increase coordination among and effectiveness of EDF teams seeking to advance priorities in multilateral forums.
  • Drive outreach and communicate effectively across EDF teams and with EDF leadership to enable a ‘One EDF’ approach to multilateral climate advocacy—including COP—and appropriate attention to emerging issues. Organize inputs from other EDF mission areas to inform new processes (e.g., NDC revision).
  • Analyze international agreements and reports (e.g., COP texts and IPCC reports) to inform and develop EDF positions on priority topics, including synergies with other multilateral work on biodiversity, agriculture, etc, as well as scope of future areas of engagement for EDF.
  • Support the implementation of EDF’s initiatives under the Multilateral Climate Cooperation strategy, including by analyzing the implementation of multilateral climate cooperation, articulation of socioeconomic dimension of the implementation of climate policies for sustainable development,  and informing/conducting outreach to promote the EDF objectives.
  • Clearly communicate complex technical and policy information to EDF staff, policymakers, environmental groups, and the public through reports, presentations, and other methods. Interpret developments within UNFCCC for wider EDF and public understanding.
  • Liaise with key external civil society partnerships relevant to EDF’s multilateral objectives (e.g. Climate Action Network International). Maintain and build relationships with key partners in civil society and target industries with the goal of fostering trust, gathering information, developing project ideas, and recruiting allies.
  • With guidance from senior management, oversee budgets for project work; develop workplans, project agreements, and scopes of work; identify and assist in procuring necessary resources; and drive project work and deliverables.
  • Independently determine the approach to completing projects and managing processes.
  • Oversee and guide the work of consultants, contractors, junior staff, interns, and fellows.
  • Develop and apply appropriate means for measuring the success of multilateral project work.
  • Participate in advancing EDF DEI goals in which people from all backgrounds and experiences feel connected, included, and empowered to address the environmental and organizational challenges in alignment with EDF values.
  • In addition to these responsibilities, the incumbent will play an integral role in other activities including fundraising, evaluating and recommending new project ideas, disseminating and communicating project results, and being a team player in developing a vibrant and entrepreneurial program.

Required Education and Experience:

  • Minimum of 6 years’ experience working to effect change in multilateral environmental processes, including a demonstrated analysis and outreach in relevant areas of the implementation and accountability of the Paris Agreement; or Advanced degree, preferably in environmental science, policy, economics, law, or a related field with at least 4 years of experience.
  • A broad understanding of environmental issues and fora including: international climate negotiations, multilateral engagement fora, developing country perspectives on NDC and NAP implementation.
  • Experience in project management and exceptional personal organization and attention to detail.
  • An ability to work on multiple projects concurrently, both independently and as a member of small teams in a dynamic and creative environment.
  • Strong analytical skills and experience performing rigorous analysis in support of highly visible work.
  • Demonstrates self-awareness, cultural competency and inclusivity, and ability to work with colleagues and stakeholders across diverse cultures and backgrounds.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills and the ability to work with colleagues and partners of varied backgrounds and experience.
  • Demonstrable people and project management skills.
  • Demonstrable analytic skills and ability to perform rigorous analysis in support of highly visible work.

We offer a strong total rewards package encompassing competitive salary, robust benefits, and professional development opportunities consistent with a modern global organization. We take into account factors such as candidate experience, skills, training, internal team equity and local norms.

Please note that pay ranges are country specific. As a result, the stated currency is not meant be converted into any other currency.

Minimum Salary

USD $85,000.00/Yr.

Maximum Salary

USD $94,000.00/Yr.
