Responsibilities

With world attention focused on both the environment and the economy, Environmental Defense Fund (EDF) is where policymakers and business leaders turn for win-win solutions. This leading green group, with programs from Boston to Beijing, has tripled in size over the past decade by focusing on strong science, uncommon partnerships, and market-based approaches.

Overall responsibility: EDF’s Development Communications team produces more than 700 donor materials annually. The Manager will provide support by assigning projects to members of the team based on areas of expertise, workloads, strategic priorities, and other variables.  They will also play a key role in establishing project timelines in coordination with the writers, frontline fundraising teams, and program partners.

The Manager will keep a bird's-eye view of current and upcoming projects, tracking deliverables to ensure projects are completed on time with proper approvals, and identifying opportunities to streamline content-gathering for deliverables that share the same subject areas. This person will also keep the Development Communications directors informed on the progress of projects and potential bottlenecks. The Manager will also play a crucial role in reporting results and impact of the team's work.

The Manager will work closely with other members of the Development Communications team, Development coordinators, gift officers, program leadership, and executive offices to oversee the process of high-value projects. They will manage the team’s relationships with contractors, freelancers, and vendors.

The Manager will report to the Senior Director of Development Communications.

Location

The ideal candidate will be able work on a hybrid schedule out of EDF’s New York or San Francisco office. Remote candidates will be considered.

Key Responsibilities

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

• Manage workload and distribution of assignments to members of the Development Communications team in partnership with Senior Director
• Act as point person for Development staff requesting writing support for projects
• Develop and manage rigorous project workplans and ensure that varied teams stay on track to meet deliverables and objectives on schedule
• Develop and apply appropriate means for measuring project success
• Facilitates transparent communication within the team and across the organization
• Work with members of the Development Communications team and program assistants to get time on the calendars of SVPs and executive staff to review reports and proposals
• Facilitate process management for reports, proposals, and special projects, using tools such as Salesforce and project management software
• Troubleshoot when issues arise, such as unresponsive program staff, missing information, lack of communication among programs, etc.
• Manage contractors, including designers, freelancers, and vendors
• Maintain a working knowledge of current best practices in project management
• Develop and maintain productive working relationships with program leadership to ensure clear understanding of  work plans and to advance shared priorities
• Make sure that all Development staff have access to the communications information they need to fundraise successfully
• Participate in advancing EDF DEI goals in which people from all backgrounds and experiences feel connected, included, and empowered to address the environmental and organizational challenges in alignment with EDF values

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in communications, journalism, media studies, marketing or related field
• Minimum 6 years’ experience working in communications and project management, including in a large nonprofit or academic setting
• Project management certification preferred
• Exceptional organizational skills and a keen attention to detail
• Experience working in a matrixed organization with multiple internal/external stakeholders, teams, and consultants spanning the globe
• Demonstrated ability to use communications as a tool to achieve goals
• Excellent writing, editing, and communications skills
• A high level of strategic thinking is required in order to synthesize complex information to identify and deploy action plans
• Possess a high degree of diplomacy to influence and manage key stakeholders and teams
• Independent judgment required to plan, prioritize, and organize a diverse workload
• Experience balancing the needs of multiple diverse stakeholders including executives, gift officers, and communications staff
• Strong ability to work on multiple projects concurrently, both independently and as a member of multi-disciplinary teams in a flexible, fast-paced, and creative environment
• Demonstrates self-awareness, cultural competency and inclusivity, and ability to work with colleagues and stakeholders across diverse cultures and backgrounds
• Thorough understanding and experience with project management methodologies and techniques
• Superb time-management and organizational skills

Please note that pay ranges are country specific. As a result, the stated currency is not meant be converted into any other currency.

Minimum Salary

USD $85,000.00/Yr.

Maximum Salary

USD $95,000.00/Yr.
