JOB ANNOUNCEMENT
Sacred Heart Community Service (SHCS) located in San José, CA is looking for an experienced fund development professional to lead efforts to cultivate individual donations to support the organization’s work in the fight against poverty. The ideal candidate thrives in a fast-paced environment and is solutions oriented in their approach. For nearly 60 years, SHCS has been one of the leading institutions addressing poverty in Santa Clara County through a strategy that combines addressing the consequences of poverty through impactful programs while building power with people to push for systemic change.
POSITION SUMMARY
The Major Gifts Manager will support Sacred Heart Community Services’ ongoing fundraising efforts from individuals. They will work alongside the Senior Director of Community Development (SDCD) to oversee major donor fundraising, conduct prospect research, track and manage donor activity and activities related to donor cultivation and stewardship. The Manager ensures regular communication, connection points, and direct solicitation of gifts from individual donors. The position ensures efficient donor tracking and recognition processes and timely responsiveness to inquiries from donors. The position interacts frequently with internal programs and provides general support to the Community Resource Development team.
DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES
Donor cultivation (80%-90%)
● Supports Community Development team to research, identify, qualify, cultivate, solicit, and steward major donors.
● Develops materials and presentations for meetings with major donors.
● Maintains donor management database files on current and potential donors.
● Provides information about Sacred Heart Community Service programs to prospective and current major donors.
● Contributes to the development of donor communications, including drafting and editing proposals, reports, appeals, and donor correspondence.
● Works collaboratively with the Community Development team to manage donor pipeline lists, emails, information requests, and meetings.
● Provides support for the planning and preparation of donor visits and special events.
● Manages a portfolio of mid-level donors, serving as their primary contact, stewards
existing relationships, and cultivates prospective donors.
● Leads and coordinates members of the Community Development team to streamline and improve major donor management systems, prospect pipeline, database outputs/reports, and maintenance of donor strategy files.
● Creates donor prospect bios, as well as pre-visit briefings and post-visit reports, tracking, and moves management.
● Professionally and effectively represents SHCS to external partners, including donors, community members, and the philanthropic community.
● Supports the SDCD on external relations, including staffing the Campaign Committee, and related Board activity.
SHCS Leadership (10-20%)
● Supports the planning and implementation of organization-wide programs, including but not limited to the Solidarity Summit, Holiday and Pack-a-Back programs and is available for work during the three days before Thanksgiving and the last two weeks of December.
● Participates in policy campaigns as assigned.
● Represents SHCS in the community through outreach to schools, faith communities, businesses, and community groups.
● Attends Board of Directors committee meetings as assigned.
● Serves as on-site manager as needed.
● Performs other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS
● Minimum 3-5 years’ experience in non-profit fundraising
● Experience using a customer relations management (CRM) database to organize and track fundraising activities, preferably Salesforce
● Collaborative, self-motivated individual with a strong customer service mindset and the flexibility and willingness to perform a variety of assignments.
● Ability to work independently with minimal supervision in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment.
● Excellent analytical, organizational, and communications skills.
● Experience proofreading and editing documents; proficient writing ability necessary to prepare correspondences and proposals.
● Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to effectively communicate with a wide range of individuals and constituencies in a diverse community.
● Ability to meet deadlines and manage multiple priorities while collaborating with others. Well organized and detail oriented.
● Computer and technology literacy required (G Suite, Microsoft Word, Excel, Power Point, and Salesforce).
Preferred (but not required)
● Bilingual in English and Vietnamese or Spanish.
● 2+ years of experience in a management position
● Well-connected in Silicon Valley with the ability to draw on existing relationships.
Position is exempt, full-time, and reports to the Senior Director of Community Development. This position reports to the Senior Director of Community Development
The position requires computer use up to 6-8 hours per day; the ability to work some evenings and weekends; and to assist on duties that require lifting up to 30lbs without assistance, and up to 50lbs with assistance. Compensation
The salary range for this position is commensurate with experience ranging from $75,000 - $85,000. Excellent benefits include fully paid medical insurance for employees and majority paid medical insurance for qualified dependents, dental insurance, vision insurance, 12 paid holidays, 10 paid sick days per year, paid vacation starting at 10 days per year, additional wellness benefits, basic life and long-term disability insurance, professional development and more.
