Overview
Manage and motivate the maintenance team, ensure coordination and co-operation between his and other departments.
Within the framework of the department’s objectives and yearly action plans, his/her missions are:
- Ensure completion of mechanical and electrical maintenance jobs with the highest level of quality, safety and effectiveness at minimum cost to maximize equipment availability
Responsibilities
The incumbent will be required to perform various tasks inherent to the position such as:
- Participate within, be committed to and drive the Health, Safety & Environmental Programme, Traffic Management Plan etc.
- Oversee the maintenance & effective installation of all electrical & mechanical equipment
- Ensure the correct and efficient implementation and use of the Maintenance Management System
- Be conversant with maintenance systems such as SAP PM
- Drive preventative and proactive planned maintenance
- Ensure adequate communication is practiced to keep operational personnel and management informed of plant process and equipment condition
- Drive the adherence of the Maintenance Department’s KPI targets in-line with the operation’s performance targets
- Coordinate the work of the Maintenance Team with production requirements
- Plan/ coordinate services on all Quarry equipment, fixed and mobile plant
- Budget, Management reporting and cost control/best return on investment initiatives
- Ensure stock control and spares availability
- Staff supervision, time keeping, scheduling of overtime and compliance of staff to HR Policies
- Ensure effectiveness of machinery in order to minimize wastage and downtime
- Drive and be responsible for continuous improvement, equipment or process upgrades and repairs, under the guidance and supervision of the Manager/Engineer.
- Complies with the company’s Health & Safety Policies and Procedures & Mine Health & Safety Act and assists in the generating and upkeep of such policies and procedures.
- Perform ad hoc duties as required
- Deliver results under a high pressure operation and environment
Education/Qualifications
- Senior Certificate/ Grade 12 Matric plus
- Must, as a minimum, be a qualified artisan. ND/BTech/Degree in Engineering (Mech/Elec) is beneficial
Experience
- At least 3 years supervisory/ management experience in a processing plant/maintenance environment in a similar industry
Knowledge & Skills
- Excellent knowledge and experience of electrical & mechanical equipment & principles
- Knowledge of testing devices, process and equipment safety interlock systems
- Good knowledge of overall Plant processes
- Understanding of the operation of the Plant
- Diagnosing, analyzing and reporting skills
- Drive plant optimisation initiatives
- Knowledge of all major makes of crushers and vibrating equipment
- Must be able to manage and develop employees

- Must be able to work independently and in a team when required
