MOVEMENT FOR BLACK LIVES
The Movement for Black Lives (M4BL) was formed in December of 2014 and was created as a space for Black organizations across the country to debate and discuss the current political conditions, develop shared assessments of what political interventions were necessary in order to achieve key policy, cultural and political wins, convene organizational leadership in order to debate and co-create a shared movement-wide strategy.
M4BL is an ecosystem of more than 150 Black-led organizations representing thousands of Black people from across the country that have come together with renewed energy, strategy, and purpose to articulate a common vision and agenda. Our ecosystem is united by core values and politics that seek to build an anti-capitalist, abolitionist, and Black queer feminist future.
POSITION DESCRIPTION
The Movement for Black Lives (M4BL) seeks an Internet-obsessed, pop culture–driven, tech-savvy, innovative digital organizer and content creator to join our growing team. As our Digital Organizer, you will be a key part of the force behind M4BL's digital content production and dissemination across multiple channels, including social media, mobile messaging, website, and supporter databases.
You will support at all stages of daily supporter engagement and list-building strategies while keeping at the forefront M4BL's broader political platform and the network's mission to galvanize Black supporters as we forge new ways toward justice and liberation. This position will work with our Digital Lead to help develop and execute a strategy to advance campaigns on our core issue areas, elevate the profile of the network, and support our narrative power–building and online engagement efforts. The ideal candidate has experience in developing and implementing digital-strategy campaigns with an analysis of race and gender, as well as experience building digital campaigns around M4BL’s policy platform.
You are a quick, persuasive writer who doesn't flinch at deadlines. You are detail-oriented, flexible, and able to dig in on analytics to assess what works. You know how to engage authentically and creatively on social-media platforms to cover events and bring people into the work. You should be comfortable juggling multiple tasks and thrive in a fast-paced and collaborative team environment.
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
You are a key strategist on the digital team, which means you’re relied on to help develop digital campaigns, support and implement at all stages of the operation, and evaluate how we can better use the tools and tactics the next time around. You understand the work of advancing issues and narratives through storytelling, campaigns, and organizing from a treetop level. You will definitely have a highly collaborative team around you, but this is your show. Your responsibilities will include:
Managing, drafting, and scheduling day-to-day social-media content
Managing our SMS program in coordination with our social-media and email strategies
Acting as support and backup for our email program, learning how to step in when needed
Supporting with digital events, including planning, prep, and streaming on our platforms
Building out content in conjunction with and in support of M4BL’s policy platform, identifying areas of strength as well as recommending new and creative engagement strategies to cultivate our supporter base
Continuing to build and strengthen our online network of organizations that are in solidarity with M4BL’s platform goals
Staying up to date with new digital technologies and social-media best practices
Other duties as necessary
QUALIFICATIONS
You understand the work of advancing issues and narratives through storytelling, digital campaigns, and online organizing: Think top-tier legislative campaigns, along with small and large on-the-ground organizations doing the work that makes you eager to get started in the morning. You should have:
Experience calendaring, drafting, and executing a social media program
Experience running social media campaigns is a plus, but literacy is fine (you understand how to use social-media CRMs to ensure coverage of important dates, events, and calls-to-action, and to run reports on the health of those campaigns)
Experience managing integrations between digital and field organizing is a plus (your instincts allow you to advise on-the-ground organizers on the digital tactics most likely to support their work)
Time-management skills and the ability to quickly pivot based on current events and organizational needs
Steadfast commitment to collective liberation and ability to speak to and unite others behind M4BL’s platform
SALARY & BENEFITS
Salary: $70,000–75,000/yr (commensurate with experience)
In addition to your cash compensation, as an employee of M4BL, you will be eligible to participate in the full package of employee benefits, which include:
