What is the opportunity?
The Logistics Specialist is responsible for assisting with day-to-day warehouse management and supervision of volunteers and interns as they work in the production area to perform the assembly, quality assurance, and shipment of mission-essential equipment. The specialist is responsible for inventory control, quality in production and shipping, and logistical details of shipments as well as coordinating facility maintenance and repair. This position also provides support for Water Mission events and advocacy engagements. Additionally, the Logistics Specialist must be willing to travel up to 3-4 weeks per year in support of Disaster Response and country program logistics needs. This full-time position reports to the Production and Logistics Manager and is based in Charleston, SC.
A Successful Logistics Specialist will:
Maintain a strong Christian witness to colleagues, vendors, donors, community members, and the general public.
Alignment with Water Mission's Statement of Faith and Core Values of Love, Excellence, and Integrity.
Coordinate work schedule and supervise 5-15 volunteers or interns each day.
Enhance quality control and safety procedures and incorporate these procedures into production operations and processes.
Identify and maintain optimum inventory levels and reorder points in Water Mission’s ERP system.
Manage warehouse and all Charleston-based vehicles, tools, and equipment.
Provide Facility and Campus oversight of repairs in conjunction with the Facilities Coordinator.
Provide quality control for picking and packing of shipments.
Compose international and domestic shipping documentation .
Provide logistical support for Country Programs and Disaster Response efforts.
Thrives under pressure, with a proven ability to work in a highly fluid, quick-changing environment.
Other duties as assigned.
What Is Required?
Personal and growing relationship with Jesus Christ.
Bachelor’s degree preferred, preferably in business management, logistics, or related field.
3-5 years of experience in logistics, shipping, quality control, volunteer management, and/or warehouse management.
Demonstrated knowledge and ability to use data to optimize decision making – preferably in the nonprofit or ministry sector.
Advanced knowledge of ERP software, shipping methods and standards, and the Microsoft Suite of applications.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to clearly articulate ideas and feedback in a constructive way.
Ability to work both independently and collaboratively with a team.
Legal authorization to work in the United States without sponsorship.
Home internet bandwidth strong enough to support video conferencing and other job-related responsibilities is required.
Ability and willingness to travel domestically and internationally up to 3-4 weeks per year in support of Disaster Response and Water Mission Country Programs. These trips will require this person to live and travel within difficult disaster environments for extended periods of time.
Ability to thrive in environments that require long car rides over difficult terrain, walking long distances in difficult terrain, working and sleeping in unconditioned environments with limited to no access to electricity.
