Job Summary

Textile Exchange is seeking an LCA Project Manager to join its Climate & Nature Impact team, which ensures that all Textile Exchange programs and platforms are driving measurable impact reduction and beneficial outcomes and are enabling achievement of the industry’s “Climate+” goals. These include a 45% reduction in GHG emissions from textile fiber and raw material production by 2030, while also addressing other interdependent impact areas such as biodiversity, soil health, and water.

Textile Exchange is currently leading a number of impact data projects, designed to fill key data gaps for the industry. These include seven (7) Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) studies, as well as development of a Life Cycle Inventory (LCI) Library to enable LCA data accessibility and efficiency.

The LCA Project Manager will lead the development and execution of the current LCA studies as well as the further development and maintenance of the LCI Library. This will involve working closely with external consultants and other stakeholders supporting this work, along with internal partners and subject matter experts.

Reports to: Impact Data & Measurement Lead

Ideal location: UK, Europe, or North America

Like all roles at Textile Exchange, the role will be primarily home-based. Textile Exchange is a United States-based, remote-working organization with a global team; your key colleagues will be in Europe/UK and North America.

Core Responsibilities

Project management of Textile Exchange’s facilitation of LCA studies, including:

  • Management of the ‘day to day’ relationships with the consultants supporting the technical development of the LCA studies. Note that the supporting consultants are currently based in Europe, the U.S. and Australia.
  • In partnership with the Stakeholder Engagement team, oversee the project advisory groups (composed of brands and suppliers funding the studies) for each LCA study, including providing project updates, arranging and facilitating working sessions, answering questions and queries, and being the connection between the project advisory groups and the supporting consultants.
  • Support the Impact Data & Measurement Lead on facilitation of discussions with the project advisory groups, including providing key updates on project progress and relevant recommendations for how to proceed.
  • Manage relationships with data collection partners for each LCA study, including providing key updates on project progress and gathering feedback on the methodologies and assumptions applied for each LCA.
  • Provide technical input into the LCA development process and ensure the LCA studies are taking an ‘LCA+ approach’ where relevant and feasible, in partnership with the Impact Measurement Manager and other relevant internal team members / subject matter experts.
  • Conduct a thorough review of all project deliverables for each LCA study to ensure that the studies align with LCA ISO standards.
  • Manage the submission process for the LCA studies to be included in industry databases, e.g. HIGG MSI, Quantis WALDB, and EU PEF.
  • Support the development of a strategic plan for LCA studies, led by the Impact Data and Measurement Lead.
  • For any new LCA studies, whether an update to an existing study or an additional fiber or raw material study, manage the Request for Proposal development and review process.

Project management of Textile Exchange’s LCI Library, including:

  • Provide technical input into the development of the LCI library, ensuring it is fit for purpose and useable by the industry.
  • Develop and execute an ongoing cadence/plan to ensure it is continually updated with new or revised data.
  • Promote the use of the LCI Library within the industry, in partnership with the Communications and Stakeholder Engagement teams. Ensure that guidance on the use of the LCI Library is readily accessible to the industry, and serve as the main point of contact for technical questions.
  • Lead the further development of the LCI library.

Other Responsibilities:

  • Support the Impact Measurement Manager by providing the most up-to-date impact data from the Textile Exchange facilitated LCA studies for environmental impact modeling. This will feed into the industry impact modeling as well as internal use of LCA data.
  • Participate in external working groups and organizations developing approaches to impact data.
  • Support the ongoing development of the LCA components of Textile Exchange’s Impact Tools, including the Preferred Fiber and Materials Matrix and the Materials Impact Explorer. Support any other LCA-related needs across the organization.
  • Ensure that you stay up to date on climate science, the impact data landscape, and industry best practices around impact accounting and measurement protocols.
  • Manage the Impact Measurement Community of Practice Hub Space, in collaboration with the Impact Measurement Manager.

Experience and Qualifications

  • 3-5 years of direct experience in Life Cycle Assessment: proficiency and demonstrated expertise in conducting and analyzing LCA studies and communicating results/findings. Professional LCA practitioner certification preferred but not a requirement.
  • Project management experience.
  • Experience working in the apparel industry preferred.
  • Experience with internal and external stakeholder engagement, facilitating workshops/meetings and maintaining relationships.
  • Familiarity with Scope 3 (value chain) emissions accounting preferred.

  • Proficient computer skills, including Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint, Word, Teams, and the ability to quickly learn new systems. Proficiency in Excel modeling required.
  • Adaptability and ability to deliver value within a rapidly evolving field.
  • Willing to travel domestically and internationally for meetings and events when required.
  • Ability to work across different time zones (within reason, it is not expected that you will work extremely long hours).

Employment Package

  • Position is full-time, 40 hours/week

  • Compensation for this role: $62,000-$90,000

  • Work from home, virtual/remote (flexible working hours a must due to differences in international time zones)

  • Textile Exchange is currently unable to provide sponsorship for work permits. Candidates need to have existing right to work in nominated working location.
