Overview
ALTHOUGH THIS IS A REMOTE POSITION, CANDIDATES MUST LIVE IN CALIFORNIA FOR REGIONAL TRAVEL TO ATTEND MEETINGS AND VISIT PARTNER SITES.
The Lead Program Manager will provide leadership and expertise to their team and program staff across the state through the following areas: support and implement staff onboarding and professional development, compliance support, program management and implementation, and supervision of staff. This position will observe confidentiality of all member, program and organizational information.
Responsibilities
- Program Management, Implementation and Outcomes: Develop and maintain productive partnerships with sites, including principals/directors, superintendents, members, site staff Internal Coaches/Site Supervisors, alumni, and other site-based partners. Conduct in person site visits at least monthly (regional travel required). Create an exceptional service experience for members, striving to retain 100% of members during the service year and obtaining a high rate of members returning for a subsequent term of service. Work closely with all site partners to ensure open, effective
communication with a clear understanding of the program model leading to successful implementation with strong student outcomes. Implement the standard core Program Manager responsibilities (as follow) with a high degree of effectiveness and expertise:
effective site partner management, successful cohort management, monitoring and support of program implementation and student outcomes, successful compliance and grant administration, and training and professional development responsibilities as related to members and site stakeholders.
- Staff Management, Development, and Support: Manage the Program Specialist(s) within the matrix environment. Actions include employment decisions, onboarding, performance management and evaluation, staff development, planning, assigning,
and directing work, addressing complaints, resolving problems and disciplinary actions as necessary. Provide ongoing coaching and professional development opportunities. Work collaboratively with the Director of Service Experience, Director of Compliance, Director of Training and Learning, and other functional teams.

- Team and Department Leadership: Lead Manager collaborates with the Sr. Manager or Director of Programs on team level support and contributes to the development and implementation of team and department level projects (e.g. training content creation, In Kind Budget Project). Lead Program Managers serve as compliance leads within the department and ensure effective communication and implementation of compliance
related items including but not limited to allowable service and timesheet management. Activities may be adjusted at the discretion of the Sr. Manager and Director of Programs based on team and department needs.
- Site Partnerships: Develop and maintain productive partnerships with sites, including principals, superintendents, tutors, teaching staff and internal coaches, and other school-based partners. Conduct in person site visits at least quarterly depending on caseload and manager direction (regional travel required). Work closely with all partners to ensure open, effective communication with clear understanding of program model leading to successful implementation with strong student outcomes. Work closely with the assigned recruiter to ensure there is a mutual understanding of school needs as it relates to tutor placement. Work collaboratively with the Coaching Specialist to respond to challenges and issues that may arise at the site. Collaborate with Program Specialists regarding timely collection of data from sites. Proactively source potential new site partnerships, and collaborate with Coaching Specialist to ensure strong understanding of Reading Corps and Math Corps program model. Provide insight to the Director of Partnerships about the challenges and opportunities in maintaining site partnerships; provide support, as needed, to develop tools related to site partnerships.
Qualifications
Minimum Education
- Bachelor’s Degree (preferred)
Minimum Experience
• Minimum 1 year of program management with Ampact.
• 3 plus years of program leadership experience, preferably in a non-profit setting plus demonstrated leadership experience.
• Ability to structure tasks, establish priorities, meet deadlines, and set and manage goal achievement.
• Demonstrated proficiency in creating partnerships and working in a collaborative environment.
• Proven interpersonal skills including the ability to build relationships, solve problems, mediate conflict, and exercise sound judgment.
• Ability to balance multiple priorities and deadlines in a fast-paced evolving environment.
• Demonstrated professional communication skills characterized by active listening, respectful two-way communication, and timely and results-oriented
communication. Public speaking experience preferred.

• Proficiency with MS Office and Excel. Previous database experience preferred.
Ability to utilize video conferencing effectively.
