The role is a full-time, regular (with benefits), salaried position. The qualified Project Manager would support a wide variety of projects throughout the US, assisting communities struck by disaster to provide their citizens with much needed federal recovery aid as well as permitting resilience projects that mitigate harm from future disasters.

SWCA Environmental Consultants is an employee-owned company of environmental professionals who specialize in natural and cultural resource management, environmental planning, and regulatory compliance.  The successful candidate will become a key leader within our climate-driven services team which is expanding rapidly in the fields of disaster recovery and resilience, ecological restoration, and alternative energy for a wide variety of public, private and non-profit clients.

This position can be located near any SWCA office or can be remote.  Under this job opening, we hire candidates at three different levels:

  • Lead Disaster Resilience Project Manager – Individual typically has at least eight (8) years of relevant industry experience and expertise.
  • Senior Disaster Resilience Project Manager – Individual typically has at least ten (10) years of relevant industry experience and expertise.
  • Principal Disaster Resilience Project Manager – Individual typically has at least 12 (twelve) years of relevant industry experience and expertise.

What you will accomplish

Below please find the job responsibilities for a Lead Project Manager.  Responsibilities for a senior or principal project manager will include lead larger, more complex projects and serving more as a subject matter expert.

  • Oversee CDBG-DR, CDBG-MIT and FEMA funded environmental projects throughout the US.
  • Ensure solid programmatic procedures and processes resulting in technical excellence on assigned projects.
  • Mentor your project managers and deputy project managers to become familiar with applicable regulations and client expectations.
  • Provide NEPA support services for projects throughout the region including renewable energy projects.
  • Provide support to ecological and coastal restoration projects.
  • Work collaboratively with various SWCA offices to meet the needs of the assigned projects.
  • Schedule and assign tasks and staff to make sure project resources are allocated appropriately.
  • Prepare technical documents and high-quality deliverables for clients.
  • Manage projects including budgets and technical staff.

Experience and qualifications for success

  • Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science, Historic Preservation, Archaeology, or a related field preferred.
  • Minimum of five (5) years of regulatory experience with CDBG programs.
  • Minimum of eight (8) years of relevant industry experience.
  • Demonstrated experience working effectively with agencies at the local, state, and/or federal levels.
  • Experience with environmental property survey and sampling.
  • Demonstrated experience with, and understanding of, NEPA
  • Prior experience successfully managing CDGB environmental reviews.
  • Prior experience managing and mentoring staff.
  • Demonstrated ability to work in a team environment.
  • Experience with Microsoft Office suite (Word, Excel, Outlook) and Adobe Acrobat.
  • Experience working on disaster resilience projects in the Mid-Atlantic states and/or the Southeast USA helpful
  • Ability to travel nation-wide at least 25% of the time.

An employee in this Baton Rouge, LA-based position can expect an hourly pay rate of:  Lead Project Manager --  $79,040.00/year to $104,000.00/year; Senior Project Manager -- $90,480.00/year to $120,640.00/year; or Principal Project Manager -- $105,040.00/year to $138,320.00/year. Actual pay within this range may depend on experience, qualifications, geographic location (which can be anywhere nationally), client requirements where applicable, and other factors permitted by law. Regular-status employees are also eligible for performance bonuses.
