SWCA Environmental Consultants is looking for a Lead Level Architectural Historian to support projects in the Carolina's (North Carolina and South Carolina, Virginia and Tennessee).

SWCA Environmental Consultants is expanding their team and looking for a dynamic individual who is following their passion in delivering the highest-quality project work. This position will perform a variety of office and field tasks including historic research, completion of historic resource evaluations/assessments, property documentation, working with and developing new clients.
This lead position is available to work in any of our North Carolina offices, or remotely within this region, with the ability to easily access project sites. This is a regular, full-time, salaried position that will report to the respected office Team Lead or Director.

Title will be based on level of experience relevant to the position and can be as follows:
Individual must meet Secretary of the Interior’s Professional Qualifications Standards (36 Code of Federal Regulations, CFR Part 61) for Architectural History and History
A minimum of a Master’s Degree in architectural history, historic preservation, public history, or a closely related field
Minimum of 8 years of experience in cultural resources management
A thorough knowledge of federal and state cultural resources and historic preservation laws and practices, including Section 106 of the National Historic Preservation Act
Extensive field experience recording, evaluating, and reporting on buildings, structures, landscapes, and districts in the eastern US
Strong understanding of architectural styles throughout the region
Experience recording resources on state-specific inventory forms
Preferred Qualifications:
12 years of experience in cultural resources management
Prior experience documenting and managing Colonial architectural resources in the Eastern US
Experience drafting agreement documents (i.e., Programmatic Agreements, Memorandums of Understanding)
Experience with the Historic Preservation Offices in Carolina's and surrounding states
Experience with application of The Secretary of the Interior’s Standards for Rehabilitation (36 CFR Part 67) and Historic American Buildings Survey/Historic American Engineering Record/Historic American Landscape Surveys (HABS/HAER/HALS) documentation and procedures
Experience reviewing and responding to RFPs, RFQs, and other solicitations
Demonstrated experience in conducting mitigation in response to adverse effects on historic properties
Is an active member in technical/industry organizations, with leadership roles at the sub-regional level
Additional Information:
Travel may be required up to 25% of the time
