We are currently looking for an Laboratory Technician Apprentice to join our Air Quality Team team.
The Air Quality Team within our Environment & Policy Practice employs over 130 consultants, scientists and engineers develop and apply state-of-the-art tools and techniques to deliver effective solutions to difficult air quality problems. Our team includes knowledge leaders on air quality measurement, inventory development, modelling, exposure assessment, chemical modelling, public health impacts, information management and data visualisation. Our clients benefit from the full range of air quality services that result in solutions and strategies tailored to addressing challenges at local, city and national scales. We deliver hundreds of projects every year, to public and private sector clients in the UK and overseas, including flagship programmes such as the UK’s national air quality measurement network (AURN), the National Atmospheric Emissions Inventory (NAEI) and the annual national scale air quality modelling assessment on behalf of UK Government.
Role Purpose:
As a Laboratory Technician Apprentice – Level 3, you will learn the basic aspects of laboratory work through a combination of on-the-job training and more formal study. The formal training will take place with our apprenticeship provider https://www.csr-group.co.uk/. The programme itself will include a BTEC in Applied Science, will last 24 months (from September) and would be delivered as day release weekly, online (with 2 exam windows and 2 practical sessions per year when the learner will need to travel to CSR to undertake the required input).
This role is available immediately to allow familiarisation with the team and facilities before the formal training programme begins in September.
Key Responsibilities:
Duties will include working alongside colleagues in our Ludbridge Mill Laboratories, providing support for off-site experimental work. You will be trained to follow documented procedures which ensure that measurements are made to a high standard and that data are accurately recorded and made available to project staff in a timely manner. Other technical duties will include the preparation and routine maintenance of equipment and ensuring that the laboratory, workshop and store areas are kept in good order for use by senior technicians, scientists and engineering staff. Liaison with subcontractors and volunteers will also be a key feature of the role. Some UK travel may be occasionally required.
