Your opportunity
Dillon’s Planning & Design group is looking for a Planner to join our multidisciplinary team of professionals in Yellowknife. You will have the opportunity to work on new and exciting projects while providing clients with a fully integrated and superior customer experience.
This position is a full-time permanent position based in Dillon’s Yellowknife office.
Responsibilities
What your day will look like
Technical Execution
- Contribute to planning, Indigenous community development or policy projects including research, report writing, and stakeholder/public engagement
- Assist with projects and assignments related to community development, regional land use, and environmental management
- Work with and support intermediate and senior planners in carrying out a range of projects
- Conduct and contribute to detailed research including jurisdictional and legislative framework reviews
- Work closely with clients, including Local Governments and Indigenous Governments, to build effective working relationships and respond effectively to requests
- Prepare engagement and meeting materials, including summaries and memos, presentations, information panels, activities, and informational content for project websites
- Collaborate with technical and professional staff from across the company and sub consultants to complete assignments
- Travel to and work with communities’ throughout northern Canada including the Northwest Territories and Nunavut
Administration and Learning and Development
- Commit to self-development and ongoing learning and professional development
- Contribute to Dillon’s corporate profile through active participation in professional associations and committees
- Professional development through participation in the Early Career Development Program and implementing an Independent Development Plan
- Business travel to other Dillon offices upon request
Qualifications
What you will need to succeed
- Ability to think critically and strategically
- Versatile and adaptable with ability to work in a self-directed, multidisciplinary team setting
- Strong writing skills; proficiency in research, report and plan writing
- Highly developed communication and interpersonal skills
- Capability to effectively receive feedback as you grow in the planning profession, working closely with intermediate and senior staff as assignments are completed
- A degree in planning, geography or a related field
- Interest in full membership with the Canadian Institute of Planners (CIP) and the Alberta Professional Planners Institute (APPI)
Experience
- Familiarity with municipal planning policy and legislation and the land development process
- Working with Indigenous communities is considered an asset
- Experience conducting or facilitating public engagement programs for a range of stakeholders is considered an asset
- Familiar with local, Territorial, Provincial and Federal agencies permitting and approvals processes
- Skills in graphic design and presentation are considered an asset
