JOB PURPOSE

We have an exciting opportunity in our NP Headquarters office to provide support services to our Finance team. We are looking for someone with a passion for organization and accuracy looking to use their skills in finance, multitasking and support to make an impact on NP’s finance and operational duties. The small team environment will provide opportunities for personal and professional growth by allowing the incumbent to expand their skills and expertise within the position and the Finance department.

The Junior Accountant at NP will play a vital role in supporting the financial operations of our organisation. Working closely with the Global Finance Team, you will assist in maintaining accurate financial records, managing cash and bank accounts, and ensuring compliance with financial policies and procedures, and donor regulations.

The Junior Accountant will report to the Global Financial Controller and work closely with other global finance colleagues as well as other departments within the organization.

KEY RESPONSiBILITIES

  • Day-to-day accounting transactions for NPI
  • The input of weekly payments in the e-banking system
  • Dissemination of monthly intercompany reports to the various Countries Programme
  • Maintain accurate financial records in compliance with the organization's financial policies and procedures
  • Process payment requests, including verifying supporting documentation and obtaining necessary approvals
  • Prepare bank reconciliations and other month-end closing routines for NPI
  • Assist in reviewing and verifying invoices, expense claims, and other financial documents
  • Assist in the preparation of financial audit files and responses to audit queries
  • Support the Global Finance team in reviewing the implementation and compliance of Country Programmes of the monthly checklist
  • Support the Global Finance team as necessary

QUALIFICATIONS AND COMPETENCIES

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, Business Administration, or related field
  • 1-2 years of experience in finance or accounting preferably in an INGO
  • Understanding of financial principles and accounting practices
  • Experience working with accounting software. Experience with QuickBooks Online an advantage
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Excel
  • Legal right to work in Switzerland

  • Strong attention to detail and ability to work accurately and efficiently
  • Strong organizational and time management skills
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work collaboratively as part of a team and build positive relationships with colleagues from diverse national and cultural backgrounds, across several time zones

Languages

  • Ability to interact confidently with and present detailed financial information effectively to colleagues and external contacts in verbal and written English and French.
