THE ROLE: We are seeking a skilled problem solver with a strong background in designing, developing, and implementing IT infrastructures solutions.

This role is responsible for architecting, implementing, and maintaining the infrastructure that powers Xylem’s platform by partnering with other IT members to set and execute on a strategy that ensures our systems are highly stable, resilient, and will scale to meet the needs of our rapidly growing business.

You will take a lead role in more complex plans to research, evaluate, design and develop IT Infrastructure systems by applying engineering, hardware and software design theories and principles to develop a compatible system infrastructure in line with Xylem’s IT strategies.

The IT Infrastructure Architect will serve as a technical expert and participate in or oversee a variety of analytical and technical assignments that provide for problem diagnosis and solutions documentation, implementation, administration, support, and maintenance of a variety of hardware, software, and network products in Xylem’s information technology infrastructure environment.

CORE RESPONSIBILITIES:  To perform the job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.

  • Integrate comprehensive IT infrastructure services that are required for digitization.
  • Management of the further development of a comprehensive system and services.
  • Know the definition of solutions and ensuring technical feasibility.
  • Determine the framework for subcontracting and ensure scalability.
  • Ensure the conformity of service and solutions with the requirements of the business.
  • Know the definition of the service delivery and the governance model.
  • Administers, implements, and provides technical support of applications and associated hardware used in Xylem’s server environment utilizing a specialized set of diagnostic tools with elevated privileges.
  • Develops specifications to detail what new systems or enhancements to existing systems can accomplish.
  • Develops operational, installation, and upgrade procedures, to be used by other staff, for communication systems, hardware, network, security, storage and software.
  • Serves as a liaison between other technical staff, management, users, and vendors regarding service requests, usage, standards, security, and other technical matters.
  • Develops structured diagrams for the specifications of databases, communication systems, servers, storage area networks, security or any other computer related hardware or software.
  • Develops and documents configurations of the following: databases, servers, computers, security and network monitor systems, packaged programs, macros, utilities, and communication systems.

QUALIFICATIONS**:**

  • Bachelor Degree in MIS or CS preferred, or relevant concentration, with 3-4 years of experience; or relevant and equivalent business or IT experience of minimum of 4-5 years.
  • Two years of experience as an application programmer, computer operator.
  • Server experience with either Windows or Linux.
  • Knowledge of technical troubleshooting approaches, tools and techniques, and the ability to anticipate, recognize, and resolve technical (hardware, software, application or operational) problems.
  • Experience building large scale systems from scratch on a modern, major cloud provider.
  • Take a principled, but pragmatic, approach to architecture and infrastructure.
  • Be able to move quickly without sacrificing overall quality or compromising long-term vision, taking deep pride in your craft.
  • Collaborative and self-driven

TECHNICAL KNOWLEDGE

  • Knowledge of IT infrastructure and software environments, programs, methodologies, procedures and policies.
  • Knowledge and understanding of technology available to determine and develop solutions.
  • Knowledge of systems management software, remote control, patch management, software distribution, and computer operating systems.
  • Knowledge of Information Technology diagnostic tools.
  • Knowledge of network environments and concepts such as TCP/IP, DHCP, DNS, wireless and mobile computing, interactive processing and remote printing.
  • Knowledge of computer servers, server operating systems, server tools and utilities, and server data backup and restore.
  • Knowledge of technical analysis, implementation, configuration, and upgrading of computer hardware, software, and peripherals, including personal computers and personal computer software.
  • Knowledge of the fundamental concepts and operating principles of data communications and data processing hardware and software.
  • Ability to provide analytical, technical, and administrative support in planning, designing, and implementation of information technology hardware, software, and network components.
  • Ability to support a variety of technologies, business departments and systems, and independently resolve problems and pro-actively communicate solutions.
  • Ability to prepare detailed written instructions and documentation.
  • Ability to gather and analyze facts, define problems, and devise solutions.

DAY IN THE LIFE**:**

In this role, the working environment is generally in an office setting and may be performed remotely.  The physical demands may include but are not limited to moving around in an office environment, frequent oral communication, close vision, and ability to operate office equipment.  Up to 20% time spent traveling.

SALARY:

The estimated salary range at this professional level is $88,000 to $159,500 plus bonus.   Starting pay is dependent on multiple factors, such as skills, experience and work location, and is not typically at the top of the range.  At Xylem we offer a competitive compensation package with a generous benefit package, including Medical, Dental, Vision plans, Wellness programs, 401(k) with company contribution, paid time off, paid parental leave and tuition reimbursement.
