Climate Fund Manager’s (CFM) is a leading blended finance fund manager dedicated to securing a sustainable future by investing across global emerging markets. CFM has a long-term vision to structure cutting edge financing facilities around thematic areas of climate change mitigation and adaptation, including renewable energy, water, sanitation, and oceans. CFM is established as a joint venture between the Dutch development bank FMO and Sanlam InfraWorks – part of the Sanlam Group of South Africa.

We provide financing solutions across the entire project lifecycle (development, construction, and operational stages). With our offices in The Netherlands, South Africa, Singapore, and Latin America we believe in a world where sustainable investing and profitability are not mutually exclusive.

The Africa Investment Team is seeking an Intern to provide support, primarily in the evaluation of new investment opportunities and the due diligence processes during deal and financing execution, however, the intern will also be involved in portfolio monitoring.

This is a full-time internship opportunity in a unique and innovative start-up environment with a result-based, not activity-based setting. We will give you the chance to build an excellent network while improving the skills necessary to succeed in either the public or private finance sector.

Responsibilities

  • Development and interpretation of project finance models, including use of VBA macros
  • Financial analysis, review of financial statements and valuations
  • Risk identification and analysis
  • Support deal identification and origination
  • Input and analysis of potential financing structures
  • Identification and escalation of any relevant transaction dynamics in order to achieve execution outcomes
  • Research of power / energy market/ water and sanitation / energy transition sector dynamics for companies operating across their region
  • Preparation of bid and transaction documentation and presentations
  • Production of written reports
  • Support the execution of development/primary/secondary market transactions - both new acquisitions and bolt-on acquisitions for portfolio companies

Qualifications

  • Honors/Masters degree student in Engineering, BComms, Financial Management/Economics, Development Finance, or a related field, with a desire to be involved in fund management and climate finance

  • Confident and able to work in fast pace dynamic environment

  • Possess strong numerical comprehension, analytical, interpersonal and communication skills

  • Good understanding of financial services, fund management, and/or investment banking

  • Strong financial modelling skills

  • Financial acumen – the capacity to demonstrate knowledge of and insight into financial principles and processes and identify inconsistencies in data

  • Ability to apply sound business judgment and an analytical, pragmatic and creative approach to problem solving

  • Desktop Research capability

  • Proficient in Microsoft office applications, such as Excel, Word and PowerPoint
