Program Overview
The Environmental Defense Fund (EDF) welcomes over 100 interns and fellows annually and works with internal and external stakeholders to ensure a top-notch learning experience. Programming and support is a balance between internal stakeholders and external colleges/university partnerships. Interns follow fall/spring/summer cycles, with most interns joining EDF as part of the Summer Internship Program. Fellows join on a rolling basis.
The Interns and Fellows Program is managed by EDF's Human Resources (HR) team. HR is focused on the heart of EDF's mission and is dedicated to providing a positive experience and support to all of EDF's staff in their important and effective work.
Overall Function
The Interns & Fellows Coordinator will provide administrative, recruitment, and project support to the Interns & Fellows Program. This position will oversee the recruitment process working collaboratively with hiring managers, provide administrative support for onboarding and offboarding, play a role in event and program planning, and work closely with internal stakeholders and vendors to ensure a robust internship experience. This role will directly impact the experiences of 100+ Interns and Fellows across EDF each year. The Coordinator will report to the Interns & Fellows Program Lead.
Key Responsibilities
- Support in managing the EDF Interns & Fellows Program, with a focus on recruiting, onboarding, and programming, and taking a lead on administrative processes.
- Partner with hiring managers to finalize job descriptions, submit job requisitions, evaluate candidates, conduct references and background checks, and extend offers.
- Oversee and facilitate onboarding and offboarding processes including ensuring all required documentation is completed and preparing documents such as welcome packets with an eye toward process improvements; liaison with Payroll, IT, and other internal partners as needed.
- Apply excellent organizational, communication, and planning skills to respond to intern, fellow, and supervisor inquiries and questions in a professional, timely manner and to prepare communications and reports as needed.
- Work with Program Lead to develop and support strategies, policies, and procedures for annual summer internship program events; coordinate and facilitate programming sessions.
- Participates in advancing EDF DEI goals in which people from all backgrounds and experiences feel connected, included, and empowered to address the environmental and organizational challenges in alignment with EDF values.
- Oversee management of the EDF Intern Ambassadors, including recruitment of ambassadors, designating team leaders, and managing programming budget.
- Collaborate with colleagues to develop and coordinate a structured learning program that includes professional development training sessions, speaker series, and engagement with leaders across EDF including facilitating lunches with President, Fred Krupp.
- Maintain HR related vendor contracts and agreements (including staffing agencies, third party administrators, etc.) and submit and track expenses in a timely manner.
- Conduct ad-hoc research projects such as enhancing DEI recruitment efforts, building new partnerships, and/or exploring new program features and improvements.
Qualifications
- At least 3 years relevant experience in project management, HR, and/or DEI related work. Experience in working with college/university students or academic program management preferred. Interviewing skills and candidate placement and/or knowledge of academic/university recruitment preferred.
- Bachelor’s degree.
- Ability to cultivate effective relationships with diverse internal and external stakeholders.
- Experience in using tactical and administrative skills for an internship, academic, seasonal, and/or similar program.
- Ability to work effectively independently and as part of a team.
- Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to represent EDF in highly professional manner.
- Superior communication skills (written and oral) including strong proofreading skills.
- Strong organizational, time management and project management skills; ability to multi-task, prioritize and meet deadlines in fast-paced environment with high attention to detail.
- Self-starter with high energy, who possesses a sense of urgency and works well under pressure.
- Proficiency in the use of PCs and Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, etc.); familiarity with Smartsheet or similar project management tools is a plus.
- Demonstrates self-awareness, cultural competency and inclusivity, and ability to work with colleagues and stakeholders across diverse cultures and backgrounds.
- Familiarity with iCIMS, Workday and/or other HRIS or applicant tracking systems is a plus.
- Experience with managing budgets/funding allocations is a plus.
- Interest in environmental advocacy and EDF’s mission and vision preferred.

Minimum Salary
USD $58,000.00/Yr.
Maximum Salary
USD $65,000.00/Yr.
