International Development Director

The role:

• Provide strategic leadership and management for Oxfam Aotearoa’s International Development Directorate (5 direct reports), spanning advocacy, mobilisation, partnering to deliver in-country activities, humanitarian response and communications and media. With a particular focus on:
  • leading an integrated directorate to work with and alongside partners and communities, both here and in other countries.
  • actively facilitating, supporting, creating and inspiring collective action to nurture systems that foster climate, gender and economic justice.
  • Working with the Executive Director to engage strategically with Oxfam in the Pacific, Oxfam Australia and Oxfam International to build a unified Oxfam presence across Te Moana-Nui-A-Kiwa / the Pacific Ocean.
• Provide strategic oversight and leadership for Oxfam’s engagement and funding relationships with institutional donors, particularly the NZ Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade.
• Actively participate in the Executive Leadership Team to develop and implement organisational strategy, advance our te ao Māori journey and lead a team of 30+ staff

A strategic thinker, effective communicator, wily advocate and passionate believer in the power of social change, you will have:

• A deep understanding of systems approaches to international development, including ability to analyse power dynamics and work in complex systems to effect change.
• First-class stakeholder and relationship management and influencing skills.
• Proven ability to both lead and manage a multidisciplinary team across multiple geographic locations and cultural contexts.
• The ability to operate in complex environments, prioritise multiple demands, and make mature political, programme, and management judgement.
• Evidenced skills in representing an organisation through public speaking and media interviews.
• A tertiary qualification (preferably post-graduate) in international development, international relations, political science, global studies or equivalent.

The post attracts a starting salary of $134,713 per annum (or more dependent on experience).
