Climate Fund Managers (CFM) is a leading blended finance fund manager dedicated to securing a sustainable future by investing across global emerging markets. CFM has a long-term vision to structure cutting edge financing facilities around thematic areas of climate change mitigation and adaptation, including renewable energy, water, sanitation, and oceans. CFM is established as a joint venture between the Dutch development bank FMO and Sanlam InfraWorks – part of the Sanlam Group of South Africa.

We provide financing solutions across the entire project lifecycle (development, construction, and operational stages). With our offices in The Netherlands, South Africa, Singapore, and Latin America we believe in a world where sustainable investing and profitability are not mutually exclusive.

CFM regularly offers internship opportunities which in principle run on a six-month basis. Subject to mutual agreement, shorter internships may be possible.

The successful intern will support the CFM technical team in its efforts to support the CFM investment and asset management functions to identify and mitigate development, construction, and operation risks in CFM investments.  These span renewable energy, water, waste, and sanitation projects in Africa, Asia and Latin America.

During the internship we will give you the chance to build an excellent knowledge of technical advisory and owner’s engineer support to the investment and finance sector.

There is an internship allowance, as well as a travel allowance to cover commuting expenses within the Netherlands. This internship is available immediately.

Responsibilities

  • To carry out discrete research assignments that support the technical and investment teams with regards to state-of-the-art technology and understanding wider market influences on the development, construction, and operation of CFM assets.
  • Shadow CFM technical team members during their interactions with project developers, contractors, technical experts, and other asset stakeholders.
  • To support in the analysis of data sets to identify trends in the performance of CFM assets.
  • To assist in ad hoc technical team tasks, as required.

Qualifications and Experience

  • You are a student in mechanical, electrical, civil engineering or a related field, with a desire to be involved in the renewable energy, water, and/or waste sectors.
  • You are confident, intelligent, commercially focused and are looking to gain valuable work experience in a one-of-a-kind international financial services institution.
  • Ideally, you have already gained some previous experience in the study of renewable energy or public infrastructure, and you are used to working in an international context.
  • You have strong interpersonal skills and a strong numerical comprehension, excellent analytical skills and a capability to communicate conclusions for non-technical team members.
  • You enjoy researching, working with data, complicated subject matters and can adhere to challenging deadlines.
  • You are fully proficient in Microsoft Office applications, such as Excel, Word and PowerPoint.
