Dillon’s Communities and Environment technical group is looking for an Intermediate Waste Management Planner to join our multidisciplinary team of solid waste professionals. You will have the opportunity to work on waste reduction and diversion projects, while providing clients with a fully integrated and superior customer experience.

At Dillon, we operate as one team. Our waste planning team works collaboratively across Canada, and supports clients from coast to coast.  This position is available in our Dillon Toronto, Kitchener, Hamilton or Richmond offices.

Responsibilities

What your day will look like

Project Management & Waste Management Planning

  • Manage solid waste projects related to waste management policy, organics processing, planning and approvals, waste diversion programs, zero waste and single-use item reduction strategies, material flow studies, feasibility analysis, and circular economy.
  • Technical contribution on solid waste master plans and strategies, and IPR transition support.
  • Develop and participate in public consultation programs and preparing public-facing content.
  • Work with project managers, municipal planners, engineers, environmental scientists and others on a variety of multidisciplinary projects.
  • Contribute to technical and professional leadership within the firm.
  • Coordinate and manage project tasks, budgets and schedules.

Business Development

  • Contribute to business development activities including the preparation of project proposals, financial proposals, presentations and client liaison.
  • Business travel to other Dillon offices upon request.

Learning & Development

  • Commit to self-development and ongoing learning and professional development.
  • Input to the career development of junior staff, including technical direction, training recommendations, coaching and mentoring.
  • Contribute to Dillon’s corporate profile through active participation in professional associations and committees.

Qualifications

What you will need to succeed

  • A degree or diploma in environmental planning, environmental, chemical, geotechnical or civil engineering, or environmental related sciences.
  • Environmental Professional (EP) designation is an asset.
  • Minimum 8 - 10 years of experience in solid waste management, preferably within a consulting environment.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, including client communication, facilitation, and mentoring abilities;
  • Positive team-oriented attitude and passion for sharing ideas; and
  • Ability to manage consulting assignments within a collaborative, team environment.

Experience

  • Familiar with relevant environmental policies, legislation, codes and standards.
  • Exceptional communication (verbal and written) skills are essential.
  • Experience working with First Nation, Inuit or Metis clients is an asset.
  • Knowledge of relevant provincial, and federal environmental legislation and policies will be considered an asset.
  • Familiarity with EPR/IPR, circular economy or material flow mapping are an asset.
  • Data analytics and data management experience are an asset.
