Dillon’s Communities and Environment technical group is looking for an Intermediate Waste Management Engineer to join our multidisciplinary team of professionals. You will have the opportunity to work on new and exciting projects while providing clients with a fully integrated and superior customer experience.
At Dillon, we operate as one team. This position is available in our Dillon Toronto, Kitchener, Oakville, Guelph, Hamilton, Edmonton or Calgary offices.
Responsibilities
What your day will look like
Project Management & Waste Management Engineering
- Preliminary and detailed design of solid waste projects related to solid waste facility design (landfill, transfer station, compost facilities), facility evaluation, facility operations, landfill gas management, leachate management, and construction administration and oversight.
- Contribute to municipal infrastructure projects related to water supply, sewers, roads, land development site servicing, drainage and site grading.
- Manage and/or be a technical lead on solid waste projects related to planning and approvals, feasibility analysis, and solid waste facility development, operations and monitoring across Canada.
- Preparation of technical reports, letters and memorandums, approval and permitting applications and public-friendly documents.
- Work with project managers, engineers, environmental scientists and others on a variety of multidisciplinary design teams (including project engineers, planners, civil, structural, mechanical, and electrical engineers, technologists, etc.).
- Contribute to technical and professional leadership within the firm.
- Coordinate and manage project tasks, budgets and schedules.
- Business travel to various sites as needed.
Business Development
- Contribute to business development activities including the preparation of project proposals, financial proposals, presentations and client liaison.
- Business travel to other Dillon offices upon request.
Learning & Development
- Commit to self-development and ongoing learning and professional development.
- Input to the career development of junior staff, including technical direction, training recommendations, coaching and mentoring.
- Contribute to Dillon’s corporate profile through active participation in professional associations and committees.
Qualifications
What you will need to succeed
- A degree in engineering.
- Licensed Engineer in Ontario (PEO) or Alberta (APEGA) (or ability to become one upon joining Dillon).
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office 2010 (particularly Word, Excel and PowerPoint).
- Minimum 8 - 10 years of experience in solid waste management, preferably within a consulting environment.
Experience
- Strong verbal and written communications skills, and keen attention to detail.
- Demonstrated abilities in multidisciplinary teamwork.
- Aptitude to learn.
- Familiar with relevant provincial and federal environmental legislation, environmental policies, codes and standards.
- Ability to apply criteria to analytical data.
- Experience working with First Nation, Inuit or Metis clients is an asset.
- Experience working in the Northwest Territories and Nunavut is an asset or other similar northern climates.
- Proficiency in AUTOCAD, GIS, Surfer, gINT or database abilities is an asset.
