Overview / Responsibilities

Wood is currently looking for an Intermediate Pipeline FEA stress Engineer to join our Oil and Gas office in Calgary.  As a Pipeline FEA stress engineer, you will be involved in a variety of engineering tasks under moderate supervision and direction of senior engineers. You will be working on small to average size projects. You will evaluate pipeline engineered systems for mechanical integrity and compliance with applicable standards and provide technical recommendations.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Lead an R&D program primarily using FEA software ABAQUS
  • Perform linear and nonlinear stress analysis of buried and above ground pipelines and facility piping primarily using FEA software ABAQUS
  • Prepare document results and write technical reports.
  • Review the work of other team members for accuracy and completeness.
  • Apply codes and standards related to the design and operation of oil and gas pipeline systems, in particular CSA Z662
  • Prepare technical calculations for various aspects of pipeline analysis such as lateral buckling, buoyancy and etc.
  • Assist in the preparation of execution plan and development of technical guidelines.
  • Review client technical specifications and requirements to ensure compliance.
  • Coordinate with the client to receive the required input data and relevant information.
  • Undertaking technical reviews of documents prepared by the team.

Skills / Qualifications

  • The ideal candidate for this role must possess strong knowledge and skills using FEA software ABAQUS
  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience using FEA software ABAQUS
  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical or Civil Engineering, post graduate degree is strongly preferred
  • Experience with R&D projects
  • Programing experience using software MatLab, Python and FORTRAN
  • Experience with AutoPipe and CAESAR II would be a bounus
  • Strong multi-tasking, time management, problem-solving and critical thinking skills.
  • Demonstrated competency in verbal and written technical communication in English
  • Strong work ethic and positive team attitude
