Svante is hiring an

Instrumentation, Controls, and Electrical PLC Programmer

🇨🇦 Burnaby, BC, CA 📝 FULL-TIME

Who are we?

Svante is a rapidly growing clean energy technology company making commercial-scale carbon capture and removal a reality and enabling global industries to play offense in the fight against climate change that will accelerate the global transition to a lower-carbon economy. The growing success of our company is owed to our commitment to our people, our emphasis on our values, and our innovative technology. Passion is put into what we do every day.

The Role: Instrumentation, Controls, and Electrical PLC Programmer

Who are you?

The heart of Svante's Carbon Capture Technology involves directing various gas streams to adsorbent beds. These gas streams must switch as the adsorbent beds progress through each phase of a complete cycle. Connecting the gas flows to the adsorbent beds is achieved by motivating and controlling a Rotary Adsorbent Machine. In this machine, the beds are connected to a rotor that passes through the various gas streams. The control and motivation of this rotor in response to instrumentation is critical to the success of a Svante carbon capture system and is therefore designated as a core center of competency.

The Instrumentation Controls and Electrical Programmer (ICEP) will be responsible for the development and modification of controls systems on Svante Rotary Absorbent Machines (RAM's) and other machinery, focusing on the development of PLC code for new designs as well as modification of existing systems. The ICEP will have demonstrated experience with implementing these systems on equipment of similar scale and complexity.

The ICEP will assist with developing new control systems and updating existing systems and may be asked to help with electrical designs and schematics, controls narrative development, and other controls documentation, including but not limited to I/O lists, interconnect diagrams, and cable schedules.

The key responsibility of the ICEP will be the development, modification, and troubleshooting of controls programming and logic to include PLC code, Drive programming on both VFD and servo drives, controls network configuration, HMI development, and Configuration of I/O devices. This consists of Both Safe and None safe programming and devices.

Working within the framework of Svante's Values and Goals, the ICEP will be responsible for developing PLC code, making design decisions for industrial control systems, and advising on machine safety from a controls perspective and general electrical design.

The ICEP will be asked to assist in the selection of sensors and I/O devices, may be asked to advise on machine and functional safety design and requirements, and may be asked to help design these systems for both new and existing machines under development at Svante. Additionally, the ICEP may be asked to assist in documentation tasks related to the development of various electrical and controls systems.
