The Island School, a not-for-profit organization based in The Bahamas, was founded to create and support transformational educational experiences with the vision of leadership effecting change, on the island of Eleuthera. The diverse educational initiatives, including our High School Semester and Summer Term, Deep Creek Middle School, Elementary Learning Center, and our Community Engagement and Partnerships, deliver unique educational journeys in conjunction with the authentic and meaningful work our organization undertakes in research and sustainable development at the Cape Eleuthera Institute, our research and innovation hub. We are reimagining what education is for, and redesigning how education is delivered.
Position Overview
This position requires a highly motivated and flexible individual to work collaboratively with leaders and staff across educational programs within The Island School. The instructional coach will directly support faculty and students in a flexible, team-oriented environment to promote deep student learning and a culture of excellence.
The instructional coach will enhance the capacity of teachers at the Elementary Learning Center, Deep Creek Primary School and Deep Creek Middle School to deliver cross-curricular experiential learning integrating the resources of the Island School community as well as local Bahamian environmental organizations, cultural experts and agriculturalists to support the vision & mission of The Island School.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Demonstrate instructional leadership and professionalism
Model excellence and an ongoing commitment to professional growth and development
Serve as a role model and mentor to students and faculty
Demonstrate excellent communication skills, relational/social skills, and problem-solving abilities
Support and collaborate across departments as needed
Other duties as assigned
Responsibilities as Instructional Coach
Support teachers to deliver evidence-based best practices for high quality instruction, with a particular emphasis on place-based, experiential learning
Develop and nurture strong, supportive relationships with faculty and staff
Provide ongoing professional development and coaching to faculty and staff (e.g. professional learning opportunities, modeling, co-teaching, targeted 1:1 coaching)
Support teachers with implementation of instructional strategies through modeling, co-teaching, observation, and feedback within an instructional coaching cycle
Guide teachers in recognizing and responding to the unique needs of all learners
Guide teachers in utilizing a variety of on-going, alternative assessment approaches to inform and differentiate instruction and compliment our cross curricular and place based teaching approach
Support the partnership with the University of The Bahamas Teaching Practicum at Deep Creek Lab Schools

Compensation & Benefits
Schedule
This is a full-time position with annual review. The Cape Eleuthera Island School and its related entities operate year round and working hours vary depending on needs but are typically Monday-Friday (40 hours/week), however, evening and weekend work will be required. Special events will require periods of time outside of normal working hours when staff must be on site for extended periods. The successful candidate should expect, and desire to work a variable and mission driven schedule.
