Job Title: Insight Data Specialist
Salary: £37,948 + benefits
Location: Remote working with hub allocated when required.

We're looking for an Insight Data Specialist to join our Insight & Evidence team to contribute to the delivery of the Trust’s Key Performance Indicators, insights from the Waterway Engagement Monitor (WEM) Survey and lead on a range of insight projects, which will include tracking audience data, analysing trends and manging commissioned market research to fulfil specific evidence needs for internal audiences at national and regional levels.
This role will lead in the delivery of research designed to monitor the public’s overall awareness of satisfaction and engagement with the Trust and its waterways. It will also be responsible for the development and growth of behavioural science techniques to refine our surveys and improve various Trust projects and processes. Within the Insight & Evidence team, the role contributes to training and learning resources for colleagues to help inform decisions.
Location/base: This role will be based from home, but with an office ‘hub’ for collaborative team meetings.
Knowledge, Skills/Qualifications & Experience
Key Accountabilities:
- Waterway Engagement Monitor (WEM) – leading on survey design, KPI reporting (e.g visitor numbers & satisfaction) and day-to-day contact with supplier.
- Delivery of annual Boater Survey – leading on survey design, KPI reporting (boater satisfaction) and general reporting of key outputs
- Brand awareness & strength - To support the Brand Team in the evaluation of the effectiveness of activities undertaken to promote brand awareness.
- Campaigns & events - To support the Campaigns and Events Team in the evaluation of the effectiveness and impact of campaigns across different media channels (including digital). Segmentation and extraction of defined-parameter datasets for key activities such as events, campaigns as well as bespoke requests relating to any dimension of held data.
- Working with the Fundraising Directorate - Designs evaluations to provide monthly, quarterly and annual strategic insight via a mixture of bespoke commissions and standard reporting.
- Develop Behavioural Science capability – Ensure behavioural science is used across the Trust’s surveys to ensure robust data collection and internally promote behavioural science as an effective improvement tool for research.
- Media Monitoring, Analysis & Reporting at National & Regional Level – Production of the monthly media monitor report. Media monitoring, analysis & reporting on: number of episodes of coverage; percentage of coverage as a result of proactive work by the Trust; percentage of proactive coverage that had a call to action; tone (positive, neutral or negative); reach – coverage appeared in national or regional media or local or consumer titles; coverage on waterways & wellbeing (linked to outcomes measurement framework).
- Organisational Intelligence – As part of the National Insight & Evidence Team contribute to the regular peer review of all insight data (including demographic profiling) to identify and analyse trends, patterns and trajectories. Monitor industry best practice to ensure our analysis is in line with industry standards.
Knowledge, Experience & Skills:
- Experience in an analytical role within a commercial environment, preferably customer or marketing focused.
- Educated to degree level
- Strong numerical skills with attention to detail
- Good time management and multi-tasking skills with ability to to remain calm and work to deadlines to provide timely analysis
- Confident and able to provide advice and insight to senior management team and advisory boards
- Ability to present data to engage a variety of audiences (for example using data visualisation tools)
- Absolute integrity in handling sensitive personal data
- Experience in survey design, including the use of survey software (e.g. SNAP, Survey Monkey, Qualtrics)
- Ability to work methodically and complete repetitive tasks accurately with excellent attention to detail
- Highly competent at manipulating and interpreting data and varying business needs
- Proactive and able to work on own initiative as well as a part of a team
