Global Communities (GC) is looking for a consultant to support the creation of the internally facing Humanitarian Response site to be hosted on GC’s SharePoint Intranet in collaboration with GC’s IT Department and in close coordination with GC’s Sr Manager for Humanitarian Response. This site would be targeted towards GC employees who may be unfamiliar or less familiar with Humanitarian Assistance and acting in a Humanitarian Response, as well as experienced Humanitarians referencing technical guidance and internal policies and the Emergency Protocol.
The Intranet page would include two components:
- GC Emergency Protocol:
- This component would present the GC Emergency Protocol in an engaging, user-friendly, and simple to grasp manner, and would link to the relevant GC policies of other departments.
- Humanitarian Assistance Learning & Resources
- This component will include internally developed training materials (HA 101) and links to external resources; a Humanitarian Technical Portal, with internally developed resources and guidance; and a Humanitarian Wiki-style site.
Responsibilities
Scope of Work
Global Communities is looking for a SharePoint Content Designer to develop user-centered content that is visually appealing with an intuitive, engaging design in line with the established content strategy set by the Humanitarian Response Sr Manager. The SharePoint Content Designer would utilize provided resources and desk research to gather relevant information for content creation. Specifically, they would:
- Content Creation
- Create a workplan outlining the content creation schedule and deadlines
- Write high-quality, engaging, and informative content for the main site, sub-sites, and wiki-style page.
- Develop content that adheres to the organization's tone of voice, style guidelines, and branding.
- Ensure the content is accurate, fact-checked, and properly cited.
- Integrate multimedia content to enhance the user experience and convey information effectively.
- Ensure the content meets accessibility standards and is inclusive to all users.
- Ensure content is posted according to organization’s internal, interim guidelines.
- Collaboration & Coordination
- Collaborate with the IT department, Intranet Redesign Working Group, and other stakeholders to gather input, feedback, and approvals for content.
- Collaborate with the IT department to ensure content integration and technical compatibility
- Quality Assurance & Editing
- Ensure content is properly categorized, tagged, and labeled for easy navigation and searchability.
- Proofread and edit content for grammar, spelling, clarity, and consistency.
- Verify the accuracy of all factual information presented
- Documentation & Reporting
- Provide documentation of the content creation process and best practices
- Provide regular reports to the Humanitarian Response Sr Manager highlighting achievements, challenges, and recommendations for improvement.
The consultancy will be approximately 40 days of LOE over a two-month period (approximately August-September 2023). All work can be carried out remotely.
Depending on how you define this - we don’t have translation options in our current SharePoint tools. Content would have to be translated outside the system and posted separately, if needed.
Qualifications
Qualifications & Experience
Required:
- A relevant degree from an accredited academic institution in a communications, journalism, writing, design or other related field, or an equivalent combination of experience and education.
- Exceptional writing, editing, and proofreading abilities to craft clear, concise and engaging content.
- Experience in creating various types of web content, such as articles, blog posts, news updates and multimedia content. Applicants should have familiarity with design principles, typography and layout to ensure content is visually appealing and aligned with the overall design.
- Basic knowledge of UX principles to structure content for easy consumption, considering hierarchy, readability, and engagement.
- Familiarity with integrating multimedia elements like images, infographics, and videos to enhance the content’s impact.
- Experience in information architecture and content management, specifically in how to structure content, configure metadata, and implement effective content management practices within SharePoint.
Preference:
- Applicants should have excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to work closely with stakeholders, as well as incorporate feedback.
- Applicant should have strong project management skills to effectively plan, organize, and manage content creation.
- Familiarity with humanitarian work and sensitivity to ethical and cultural considerations related to content creation.
