Overview / Responsibilities
Wood Mining & Minerals business is seeking an HSSE Coordinator at our project site in Northeastern Ontario on a rotational basis (14 days on, 14 days off) for a period of 3 - 6 months. Reporting to the Manager, HSSE on the project, the successful candidate will have the opportunity to provide HSSE support on a major project. Key Responsibilities
- Assist with maintaining the effectiveness and continued development of the HSSE management system and provide direction and support to its application on the project
- Provide leadership, expert advice, support and guidance to Wood project construction management team regarding HSSE planning and execution strategies on the project
- Be familiar with and apply all current occupational HSSE legislation, codes of practices and HSSE procedures required within project scope of work including pending changes
- Assist with the implementation and maintenance of the project HSSE Orientation Program
- Establish a positive working relationship with relevant stakeholders (such as contractors, Client, regulatory authorities, local communities) to facilitate open and accurate HSSE communication in matters related to HSSE
- Assist with the implementation of the project internal HSSE audit program including tracking of identified corrective actions
- Highlight HSSE issues and make recommendations (based on reports, audits, and incident analysis) to be implemented to enhance HSSE performance
- Provide HSSE support, guidance and leadership to contractor management, supervision and craft
- Examine HSSE trends and propose actions to prevent recurrence of incidents, accidents, and near-misses
- Assist with the implementation and application of our HSSE Behavior Based Safety Program
- Participate in and if required facilitate Root Cause Analysis investigations of major incidents
Skills / Qualifications
- Nationally recognized Health and Safety certification and/or Degree in Occupational Safety & Health or related field
- Minimum 5 years’ experience in an HSSE position
- Experience on heavy industrial construction projects, including exposure to both greenfield and brownfield projects, in the mining industry
- Sound knowledge and experience in emergency response, occupational health, incident investigation, risk management, and behavioral based safety
- Extensive experience in the overseeing and monitoring implementation of HSSE Management System and HSSE Plans by contractors and subcontractors on site to ensure effective control of risks
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Office, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook
- Excellent communication, interpersonal and presentation skills with fluency in English
- Authorization to work lawfully in Canada without sponsorship from Wood is required
- Due to the large percentage of time spent in the field, candidates must be able to perform physical activities such as extended periods of walking in areas of uneven ground conditions in varying environmental conditions, climbing stairs, scaffolds and ladders, entering confined spaces and excavations. Additionally, extended periods of time are spent driving around the construction footprint in a four wheel drive pick-up truck over varying, sometimes very rough terrain with frequent need to access/egress vehicle to check on status of work
