The Oversight Board makes binding and independent decisions about the most challenging content issues on Facebook and Instagram.  Members of the Board include Helle Thorning-Schmidt, former Prime Minister of Denmark, Tawakkol Karman, Nobel Peace Prize Winner, Michael McConnell, Director of Stanford’s Constitutional Law Center, and may other diverse leaders and thinkers from around the world.  The Board issued its first decisions in January 2021.

The Oversight Board Administration is the team of full-time staff who supports Board Members in carrying out their duties. The Administration has a presence in London, San Francisco and Washington, D.C., and operates with a global scope.

Role

Joining the Oversight Board Administration is a chance to be part of an organization which is leading on some of the most challenging issues facing the tech industry and society.

This is a 14-month fixed term position and the role reports to the Head of HR Compliance for the Oversight Board starting January 2024.

People at the Oversight Board Administration are the core strategic driver of our success. The People Team therefore strives to provide unique experiences for all staff working for the Oversight Board. As such, the HR Generalist will play a crucial role contributing to the organization by developing and implementing progressive HR solutions to support an amazing and innovative culture at the Oversight Board Administration. The incumbent in this position will work closely with the HR Business Partner, HR Manager and Head of HR Compliance to ensure consistency in the implementation of policies and procedures, across the People Team spectrum.

The post holder will be part of a highly cross-functional team and will leverage prior HR generalist and HR business partner experience to develop a trusted adviser relationship with managers while supporting the critical ongoing compliance work. The post holder will hold considerable experience managing HRIS systems, managing US and UK jurisdictional compliance initiatives as well as leading and facilitating global payroll and benefit administration. The HR Generalist will work with the Head of HR Compliance in a true generalist role to identify HR compliance priorities across all regions of the Oversight Board to ensure that HR policies, procedures and initiatives are fully aligned with the Oversight Board’s objectives. Therefore, the post holder will possess a deep understanding and knowledge of the compliance frameworks of the various jurisdictions within which OSB operates (US, UK and ideally within the EU).  As the Oversight Board continues its trajectory, the post holder will be required to assist with adhoc projects and processes (inc. recruitment) as needed.

This role will be based at the either of the Administration's US and UK locations of Washington D.C., or London. Oversight Board offers flexible hybrid remote working, so we welcome applications for those based ​across East Coast US states to allow for collaboration of time zone.

Skills and Experience

Successful candidates are likely to have the following skills and experience:

  • Educated to a master’s degree standard in Human Resources or related field is preferred.
  • Demonstrable experience of working across the US and/or UK (additional EU experience advantageous).
  • HR Certification required (PHR, SPHR, SHRM-CP, SHRM-SCP, CEBS, MCIPD or equivalent)
  • In-depth knowledge of US/UK/EU legal frameworks paramount. Detailed knowledge of US legal frameworks preferred (including state and federal employment law including HR technical knowledge of EEO, AA, ADA, ERISA, 5500’s, SARs unemployment, and worker’s compensation in a multi-state or global organization).
  • Ability and flexibility to successfully manage multiple priorities and projects simultaneously, ensuring continuous follow-up.
  • Extensive experience in managing payroll, pension/401k, health insurance and other benefits plans and their renewals.
  • Demonstrated experience procuring, crafting and deploying HR systems and processes, including reporting of metrics to managers, leaders, and teams.
  • Strong track record of delivering a high quality of HR compliance work inc. payroll and benefit administration.
  • Experience with providing high-quality onboarding experiences for new joiners and leading positive engagement with leavers.
  • Ability to work both individually and collaboratively across a global organization spanning multiple time zones.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills, including an ability to manage stakeholders, with the style and ability to gain the trust of employees at every level across the organization.
  • Proven expertise in delivering accurate and effective HR administration processes and advice with the ability to present data driven solutions and recommendations.
  • Experience in providing full spectrum HR support, with an ability to support colleagues across the People Team as needed.
