Job Summary:
The Health, Safety & Environmental (HSE) Specialist will report to the Health, Safety, Environmental & Quality (HSEQ) Manager and collaborate closely with the HSEQ Manager for Li-Cycle’s North American Hub project. The HSE Specialist will assist in providing health, safety and environmental support to Li-Cycle management, employees, consultants and suppliers consistent with regulatory requirements, industry standards, and company policies. The initial focus for the HSE Specialist will be on developing HSE written documents using a systematic approach for Li-Cycle’s North American Commercial Hub #1 to be constructed in Rochester, NY. As the Hub is commissioned, the HSE Specialist will assist teams with portions of the operational documents such as Standard Operating Procedures and Lockout/Tagout/Try Procedures, as well as assisting in the development of HSE training.

Roles & Responsibilities:
- Be a functional expert in most health, safety and environmental disciplines.
- Perform tasks (program and practice) in a wide range of health, safety and environmental (HSE) disciplines to achieve compliance with HSE standards and with federal and state regulatory requirements.
- Assist with Hub project procedure development such as Design for Safety Plans and Procedures, H&S Management Plans, Contractor Training and Induction Programs, and Operational Safety Procedures.
- Perform safety and risk planning for the Hub project and be the primary Li-Cycle H&S representative during construction.
- Build trust and relationships with operational leadership and other HSE practitioners throughout the organization.
- Assist in monitoring and preventing chemical, physical and biological hazards and diseases that could be present in the work area.
- Assist with reviewing Job Safety Analyses (JSA) and Risk Assessments to identify potential hazards and offer abatement assistance.
- Ensure all incidents are addressed effectively by promptly reporting, investigating, and taking corrective actions.
Qualifications:
- A degree or certificate in Occupational Health and Safety, related field, and industry experience in an HSE role (5-7 years)
- Working knowledge of OSHA and related standards with regard to chemical process operations preferred
- A valid driver’s license and good driving record is necessary for this role.
- Working knowledge of workers’ compensation processes and return to work practices
- Computer proficiency with the Office 365 suite of services
- Preference for experience with the following:
- Experience in a large, multi-disciplinary organization
- Experience in HSE documentation and program development
- Experience in environmental controls and/or management systems a plus
Work Conditions:
- Some travel may be required (including cross-border travel with Canada)
- Manual dexterity required to use desktop computer and peripherals
- May be exposed to hazards associated with manufacturing
- Use of PPE will be required
- May require alternate work schedule to support operations (weekends or nights with advance notice)
