Health Care Policy Intern

Washington, DC or Remote Work Opportunity | 20 Hours/Week | September 18, 2023 to December 15, 2023 | Compensated at $18/Hour

The Century Foundation (TCF)—a think tank promoting progressive ideas and innovative practical solutions that advance opportunity and equity—seeks a part-time fall health care policy intern to be based in TCF’s Washington, D.C. office. This internship will also have the option for virtual/remote work for those outside of the D.C. metro area. The health care policy internship is a paid position ($18 per hour) and will run from September 18, 2023 to December 15, 2023 (although dates may be flexible given the intern’s schedule).

The part-time intern (approximately 20 hours/week) is responsible for supporting research and administrative needs for TCF’s health care policy team. This internship opportunity is geared toward current graduate students.

Core Responsibilities:

Research tasks:

• Research and writing related to health care costs and health equity. Areas of focus will be:
  • Health care cost growth with an equity lens
  • Cost-growth benchmarks for health care spending
  • More direct regulation of provider prices
• Data analysis, including presenting data in charts, graphs, and other forms of visualization, for the above topics.
• Assist with finalizing research reports, commentaries, and other written products, including checking references, fact-checking, formatting, etc.
• Help with social media promotion, including drafting tweets and language for Facebook posts.
• Participate in meetings and events as appropriate.
• Assist in researching potential strategic partnerships.

Administrative tasks:

• Copy materials and assemble event materials as needed.
• Take notes for internal and external meetings and events.
• Help with personalized outreach.
• Schedule large meetings (4+ people).
• Assist with scheduling for the health care reform director/senior fellow.
• Other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications:

• Strong attention to detail, highly organized, and able to manage priorities and meet deadlines.
• Familiarity with Google suite
• Proficiency in data analysis and with key data sets is a plus
• Knowledge of key search tools for accessing legislation at the federal and state levels, as well as federal laws and regulations.
• Strong written and oral communication skills.
• Energetic, flexible, collaborative, supportive, and proactive.
• Knowledge of health care policy.
• Passion for advancing policies to achieve health equity.
• Ability to work a consistent part-time schedule of 20 hours per week.
• Matriculation in a graduate program.
• Pending degree in public health, health policy, public policy, or a related discipline preferred.
