Grants Accountant

🇺🇸 Minnesota, US 📝 FULL-TIME

Overview

.THIS IS A REMOTE POSITION BUT CANDIDATE MUST LIVE IN THE STATE OF MINNESOTA.

The Grants Accountant reviews accounting and financial data to accurately prepare financial and collection reporting related to assigned grants by required deadlines.  Adhere to grant specific requirements; AmeriCorps rules and regulations; OMB regulations including 2 CFR 200; GAAP; FASB pronouncements; applicable federal, state, county and city laws; and internal control compliance. Observe confidentiality of all accounting, payroll, employee, member and organizational information.

Responsibilities

  1. Grant Reporting and Collections (80%)

    1. Accountable for knowing and adhering to grant requirements for assigned grants.
    2. Responsible for completing reports and collections on grant expenditures accurately and by or before deadlines.
    3. Responsible for reviewing accounting transactions to ensure appropriate coding, grant application, and allowability to minimize risk of disallowed payments
    4. Communicate needed coding changes to ensure appropriate grant spend down.
    5. Ensure compliance with all financial grant requirements, including OMB regulations, 2 CFR 200 and grant specific requirements.
    6. Monitor budget to actual performance for assigned grants; communicate needed changes to program and accounting staff, to ensure appropriate grant spend down
    7. Ensure site fee, technical assistance or other invoices are created accurately per agreements and in a timely manner.
    8. Prepare financial reporting materials for government, corporate, and foundation grants.
  2. Manage Accounting Processes (10%):

    1. Manage grantor billings and collections; follow up on late payments.
    2. Monitor expense allocations to ensure allocations are appropriate for each grant
    3. Verify accuracy of revenue and expenses by funder
    4. Complete required tasks for year-end audit and other financial monitoring.
  3. Budgeting (5%):

    1. Develop matching grant budgets to ensure match requirements are met and fund use is maximized
    2. Assist in the preparation of AmeriCorps grant budgets
    3. Assist in the grant budgeting and reforecasting processes as needed
  4. Miscellaneous (5%):

    1. Perform special projects or assignments as assigned.

Qualifications

Minimum Education

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Finance, Business or related field

Minimum Experience

  • Minimum of one-year relevant grant, non-profit, or fund accounting experience or 3+ years in general accounting roles.

  • Familiarity with AmeriCorps programs a plus.

  • Experience with government and private grant reporting and fund accounting methodologies

  • Knowledge of 2 CFR 200, FASB, and GAAP.

  • Advanced knowledge of Excel

  • Able to effectively use database and accounting computer application systems.

  • Oracle NetSuite and UKG experience is a plus.

  • Demonstrated flexibility and ability to handle multiple projects in a fast-paced, evolving environment.

  • Proactive, self-directed individual motivated to continually evaluate and improve processes and procedures.

  • Excellent analytical, decision-making, time management and organization skills.

  • Professional demeanor, good interpersonal skills, self-motivated and customer service orientation.

  • Must have the ability to travel locally, statewide and nationally to attend meetings
