TITLE: GRANT WRITING & INSTITUTIONAL GIVING COORDINATOR

POSITION SUMMARY:
Social Justice Learning Institute (SJLI) is a non-profit organization dedicated to improving the education, health, and well-being of youth and communities of color by empowering them to enact social change through research, training and community mobilization. We do this by building capacity for individuals and communities to advocate for their needs; train and build leaders; educate and empower youth and community members to identify and rectify injustice. We deliver effective programs, resources and support that help advance our mission.
The Grant Writing & Institutional Giving Coordinator, is part of the Development and Communications team that works closely with the Director of Development and Associate Director of Programs and Development to achieve SJLI’s fundraising objectives. This position is responsible for the full range of fund development activities for the organization, in particular, researching, writing, preparing and submitting grant proposals to public agencies, foundations, and corporations. SJLI’s has seen unprecedented growth in its budget, due in large part to the increase of invitation to submit grant proposals since the spring of 2020. SJLI’s annual budget is more than $4 million dollars, of which three-fifths is from contributed revenues.
The ideal candidate is an exceptional writer who crafts compelling proposals in SJLI’s unique voice; an active listener and engaging storyteller with an understanding of a social justice mindset. The successful candidate is also a quick learner and problem solver, with extreme attention to details with an ability to manage multiple tasks and work both independently and a solid team player.

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE
The Institutional Giving Coordinator and Grant Writer will be a highly motivated self-starter with 3-5 years of work experience, preferably in grant writing for nonprofit organizations, and a Bachelor’s degree in English, journalism, or a related field.
