Global Lead, Integrated Climate Action

This position will be based in WRI Europe. Existing work authorization is required at the time of application submission. WRI is unable to sponsor any visa work sponsorship for this position.

Through its network of global and local experts, WRI Ross Center for Sustainable Cities supports city- and national-level change for people and the planet, focusing on integrated solutions to new and long-standing urban challenges, primarily in the Global South. The WRI Ross Center for Sustainable Cities’ Integrated Climate Action Programme is committed to accelerating the pace and scale of climate action through collaborative and integrated planning and implementation

Job Highlight:

Reporting to Director, Urban Efficiency and Climate, you will serve as Global Lead, Integrated Climate Action to develop and implement a strategy to support integrated climate action across all our city engagements in developing and emerging economies. Amongst others, you will help cities adopt an integrated approach to the planning, financing, implementation and evaluation of climate actions across different sectors, functions and organisations; coordinate a global effort to ensure fit-for-purpose city climate accountability mechanisms and governance structures; establish collaborations with international and regional partners; raise funds to scale our impact; and produce knowledge products to guide self-learning and share our approach, insight and lessons learned with a broader audience.

What will you do:**

• Provide strategic direction and management of WRI’s Integrated Climate Action programme, ensuring all projects are on track to achieve stated goals and objectives, timely delivery of all outputs, and effective use of funds to deliver impact
• Develop, test and scale models for rapid climate action planning, multi-level climate governance, and integration of climate solutions in city strategic planning, land use, management and financial processes that maximise synergies and minimise trade-offs between climate and other city outcomes
• Coordinate a global effort to ensure fit-for-purpose city climate accountability mechanisms and governance structures
• Lead a review and update of the Greenhouse Gas Protocol standard for cities (Global Protocol for Community-scale Greenhouse Gas Emission Inventories), including additional guidance on scope 3 and consumption-based emissions, and integrated air pollutant and GHG accounting
• Lead development and dissemination of innovative data and knowledge products to support accounting, planning, implementation and evaluation of integrated climate action, and evidence the benefits and impacts of integrated climate action
• Develop processes and resources to ensure every new WRI Ross Center project monitors and evaluates integrated climate action outcomes
• Contribute to internal and city capacity building through webinars, workshops, direct support and facilitation of peer‐to-peer exchange
• Line management of the global Integrated Climate Action team (4 FTE) and ensure close collaboration with other WRI Programmes and International Offices
• Engage funders and partners and develop fundraising materials on integrated climate action in collaboration with WRI International Offices, to scale and expand our impact
• Represent WRI at external workshops, webinars, and conferences as well as meetings and discussions with key regional and international partner organizations

What will you need:**

• Education: Advanced degree in science, engineering, policy, or related fields
• Experience: Minimum 12 years of relevant full-time work experience, with 10+ years of experience in project management and project implementation in an international setting
• Demonstrated ability in managing teams, collaborating with partners (e.g. city officials and NGOs), and engaging funders
• Strong knowledge of technical and policy aspects of climate action planning and implementation in Low- and Middle-Income Countries
• Effective project management approach, and experience leading large, complex, multi-stakeholder programs, and ability to manage and prioritize multiple parallel tasks
• Fluency in English combined with excellent communication skills, and demonstrated ability to communicate complex concepts clearly and effectively in conversation and writing
• Experience working across different cultures, languages and time zones, and demonstrated commitment to cultural sensitivity and inclusivity. Experience living and/or working in a Global South context is desirable

Location: WRI London Office or WRI the Hague Office

Start date: Upon mutual agreement with the candidate

Potential Salary: The salary range for this position is £65,000 - £82,000 if filled by a candidate located and legally able to work in the UK. 
The salary range for this position is € 80,000 - € 101,000 if filled by a candidate located and legally able to work in the Netherlands.
