Program/Department Overview
EDF’s Climate Resilient Coasts and Watersheds Initiative works with diverse partners to achieve a vision where communities and ecosystems along coasts and rivers thrive with water, and are safe, equitable and prosperous places to live, work and play. The Initiative is part of EDF’s People and Nature Impact Area, which focuses on delivering food, water and climate benefits for a healthy planet.
EDF's Climate Resilient Coasts and Watersheds team is working to build more resilient coastal communities by promoting the use of holistic, equitable, and community-based adaptation strategies to reduce the risk of sea level rise, flooding and damages from coastal storms. Aligned with this work, the Climate Resilient Coasts and Watersheds team is currently working on themes directly linked to flooding and its impact on communities at local, national and international levels. These topics range from benefit cost analysis for flood infrastructure development and government policy, coastal planning, flood insurance programs, national and international legislation on flooding and coastal resilience as well as the inclusion of a wide array of communities in the dialogue to increase resilience from flooding. The Global Flood Resilience intern will provide support with research, analysis, policy development, and the monitoring of the global dialogue and trends on flooding. This is an exciting opportunity for engagement in coastal resilience efforts and to support a team engaged at local, national and international levels and support research efforts linked to coastal resilience.
